MARIE CROOKHAM Obituary

June 8, 1930 - February 11, 2011

Marie Frances Denevi Proietti Crookham was born at home in San Leandro CA., on June 8, 1930 to Frank and Catherine Denevi. Marie graduated from Hayward High School in 1948 and in 1950 married Joe Proietti. They moved to Merced in 1956 where they raised their four children.

She worked for many years in the dental assisting profession and in 1969 she began a career as an Instructor in the Dental Assisting program at Merced College. Later she became Director of the program and in 1993 she retired after 24 years in education. Marie was educated at Lux College in San Francisco, received a B.A. from CSUF and an M.A. from Chapman College. In 1979 she married James Crookham and they had 26 years of traveling, enjoying grandchildren and retirement together until his death in 2005.

Marie is survived by her brother Frank Denevi of San Leandro, her four children, Debra and husband Dana Walton, Don and Melissa Proietti, David and Lisa Proietti and Denise and husband Steve Miller. Her grandchildren , Tara and husband Steven Kornaros, Kelsey Walton, Tracy Proietti, Chris and Lori Proietti, Joseph and Annie Proietti, Katy Proietti, Jessica and husband Michael Parks, Caleb and Jeanette Miller, Jill Miller, Dylan, Alex and Max Proietti. Great-grandchildren Mila and Aria Kornaros, Chaz, Noah and Lilly Miller. Gabriel and Michael Parks and Nicholas Proietti. Step children and grandchildren; Todd Crookham, Daniel and Karrie Crookham and sons Ryan and Conner. Julie and husband Butch Siefert and children Emma, Will and Maggie.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011 with the Recitation of the Rosary starting at 8:30 AM and Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Merced College Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.

To Marie's family, our cousins and friends, we are so sorry to hear of Marie's passing and send our prayers and condolences to all of you at this time. Marie was a wonderful person and she will be deeply missed. I am sorry we are not able to attend the service - but you all are in our thoughts and prayers. To Marie's loving family, I am deeply sorry for your loss, Marie was an incredible woman and influenced so many lives...I am at a loss for words, my she rest in peace in His arms for eternity and join her loved ones that passed before her. Thank you Marie for all your wonderful advice and passion for the things you cared about, you were a remarkable example of a strong woman. RIP....
