Nelson Porath Obituary

Nelson E. Porath
August 2, 1932 - April 21, 2021
Merced, California - Dad passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2021 surrounded by family.
He was born in Bull Creek CA in Mariposa County on August 2, 1932. He was second to the youngest of 13 children. He met the love of his life Joan Hughes in Coulterville CA and that is where their love story began. They married on April 27, 1957 and began their 64 beautiful years together. He worked for Pacific Bell from 1955 and then retired as a line supervisor in 1982. He then began his farming full time, working 18 hours a day for over 17 years. Dad was the most loving and devoted family man we could have ever asked for. His work ethic was second to none. Although he only had a high school education, his life experiences earned him a masters in common sense. To know him was an honor and a blessing. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and family camping trips. There are no words to describe how awesome of a man he was. He will be truly missed and in our hearts forever. He was preceded in death by parents John and Elizabeth Porath, 8 brothers and 4 sisters. Survived by spouse Joan Porath, Son David Porath and (Jen Porath), Daughter Leslie Soares, Grandchildren Matthew Soares and (Danielle), Hayden Porath, and Lauren Porath. Great grandchildren Madison, Kirsten and Easton Soares. Memorial Service to follow at a later date.

I was saddened to read about Nelson's passing. I worked with him at AT&T for 12 years before he retired and became good friends. We shared many great conversations about work situations, about life and family and quite a few good laughs. It kept us grounded and positive about the future. What stood out to me about Nelson during this time was his dogged determination to solve any problem that came up but also to work very hard to complete any task that he faced. A man like this will not be forgotten by all who knew him. My condolences to his wife, son and daughter and grandchildren.

Nelson was a wonderful person I knew him well I use to babysit for David and Leslie Nelson would pick me up in his Dodge pick up and always had country music on. Always a smile on his face and a kind word for all he met. Nelson will be truly missed

Nelson was one of the hardest working human beings I have ever met. Many fond memories of him dating back to 1978. Such a gentle man and so inspiring. May you rest in peace Nelson
