Merced, California - Wife, Mother, Warrior, a few words that come to mind when thinking about Peggy Irene Kalmin. Peggy was born on November 1, 1931 in Spring Lake Borough, New Jersey and gained her heavenly wings on August, 27 2023 in Merced, California where she resided for 60 years. She now is rejoined with her parents and husband Alfred George Kalmin, Sr., and 7 brothers and sisters.
Throughout Peggy's life she has worn many hats and her legacy will continue through her generosity, her fierce love of the Lord and the way she always opened her heart and arms to anyone she encountered. Many always looked to her for her keen sense of fashion, incredible green thumb, love for Sunday football, ability to make the most delicious pies, her love of poker and the way she loved her family so fiercely. She never took no for an answer and always stayed true to her values.
Peggy knew the value of servanthood by being a long-time member of Yosemite Church where she served with Helps and Hospitality. She loved her time in the word and attended Bible Study weekly to deepen her relationship with the Lord.
Peggy cherished her family and loved ones dearly. She never missed sending a birthday card or missed an opportunity to give a warm hug. She was a woman of her word and many people in the community looked up to her for the way she handled herself and her family. She always said she was happiest being a mother and being on the ranch. One might say Peggy was always a fighter, whether that be for a specific cause or up until her last breath with her fight against cancer. When Peggy received her diagnosis, she took it with grace, courage, humor and hope. She defied the odds throughout the years but ultimately lost her fight to lung cancer peacefully and in the Lord's time.
Peggy's legacy lives on in her family that remains on this side of Heaven, she is survived by her son Alfred Kalmin (Claudia) and daughter Stacey Machado (Martin). She leaves behind four grandchildren, Cole Kalmin (Cory), Eric Kalmin (Ali), Brittney Machado (her fiancé Dylan) and Brandon Machado. She also leaves behind one great grandson Lincoln George Kalmin and his soon to be little brother. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Parminder Sidhu and the staff at Mercy/UC Davis Cancer Center, Hinds Hospice care givers and support, and all the wonderful ladies at Lamerson Landy Care/Northwood.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, beginning at 11:00a.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street, Merced, California 95341.
