Atwater, California - The Love of my Life.
SMSGT Philip A. Chernoff, born on September 11, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away at home peacefully on February 20, 2025, in Atwater, California.
At the age of four, Philip moved to San Francisco, California, where he later became part of the first full graduating class of Lincoln High School in 1960. In his early years, he worked as a beer truck driver before joining the U.S. Air Force in April 1963. He dedicated 27 years to military service before retiring with distinction. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to public service by working for the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years.
Philip had a deep passion for bowling and cherished hunting trips with his brother Ron. His enthusiasm for computers was unmatched, and he also found great enjoyment in audiobooks and reading novels by Louis L'amour and Tom Clancy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Muriel and Ruben Chernoff, as well as his first wife, Carol. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Brenda Joy ("Bright Eyes"); sons Leland (Spouse Margarita) and Shawn; daughters D. Michelle (Spouse Chris) and Sherri (spouse George); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Philip's legacy of dedication and love will be remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
Memorial services are to be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Merced, CA on March 11th, 2025 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
