Anne Sugishita Obituary

Anne Sugishita 86, of Morgan Hill, California, entered into eternal rest May 18, 2009. She was born April 20, 1923, in San Jose, California, the daughter of the late Goro and Mime Tabata. She was one of six children and wife of Thomas Sugishita for 53 years until his passing in 1995. Anne graduated from Hollister High School in 1941 and in 1942 was interned to camp during World War II in Poston, Arizona and Heart Mountain, Wyoming, during which time she married Thomas and had their first child. After they were married, Anne and Tom returned to the family ranch in Coyote, California whereupon they raised their three children and grew Santa Clara County Fair and California State Fair award-winning fruits and vegetables for their Garden Farm Fruit Stand until retiring to Morgan Hill in 1983. Anne was a skilled gardener, floral arranger, and accomplished artist in oil and watercolor paintings. She was a member of Women In Touch, the Coyote Grange, and also an Honorary Member of the Flower Lovers Club of Morgan Hill. As her grandchildren will attest, she was a masterful seamstress resulting in all their clothes and blankets as children; and a fabulous cook, always leaving them wanting for her macaroni salad and homemade jams, cookies, and pies. She will truly be missed amongst her neighbors for her homegrown vegetables and flowers. Anne was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; appreciated by many and loved by all. Anne is survived by her brother James Tabata of Minneapolis, Minnesota and sister Eva Tabata of Hollister, California; sister-in-law Janet Tabata; daughter Barbara and grandson Darius Sugishita Pazoki; son and daughter-in-law Harold and Eileen; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Kathy; granddaughter Claire Anne Sugishita-Wanner and husband Steven Wanner, Jr., great-grandsons Hudson Sugishita Wanner and Everett Sugishita Wanner; grandson Thomas Flyer Sugishita and fianceé Jonea Boysen; grandson Kenneth Ward Sugishita; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Tom; brothers Ray and Flyer Tabata; infant sister, Lucille; niece Susan Tabata; and sister-in-law Judy Tabata. Services to be held on Friday, May 29th, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 566 North Fifth Street, San Jose, California 95112. Luncheon reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. Donations will kindly be received at the Wesley United Methodist Church or a charity of choice in memory of Anne Sugishita. I read the obit more carefully this time; I hadn't realized that one of the Tabatas ended up in Minneapolis, close to where my Mom grew up and my Dad went to college. I am also saddened to reflect on the Relocation that so many relatives and beyond went through. I also remember that although I spent four years at Encinal, I still feel like a newcomer to Coyote, although I left years ago; but Mrs. Sugishita did so much to make us feel always welcome!

You lit up our little world in Coyote, and my condolences go out to Barbara, Hal and Tim. How many times I thought of you and your family when driving past the old Garden Farm fruit stand, I can't say.

Dear Tabata/Sugishita Family
I know what strong feelings were in
your family and the ties you felt.
I know of the Pride and Love that
you had for each other.
I was a Friend of Brother Flyer and
knew how he felt about his wife and
Daughter. How he was so proud when Susan
was born, I hope you will all be
reunited in spirit to share another
life together someday, somewhere.
God Bless your Extended Family.
I am happy to see another "New Flyer"
in the Family.
