Resident of Los Altos
Art passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 25th, 2017. He will be remembered as a devoted loving husband, father, and papa.
Arthur Raymond Gass was born on August 8th 1927 in San Francisco to Otto and Bertha Harsch Gass. Kids explored the city safely back then and he and his friends made box coasters and walked up the hills and coasted down, they also had fun riding the cable cars by themselves. He shared many interesting stories of those times. The family moved to Clearlake for a brief time, and then settled in Mountain View. Otto opened the Renaissance Studio on El Camino Real in 1942 and Art joined him in the late 50's, after a time, his son Steve joined them as well. They eventually sold the property and Art still repaired and finished furniture at home, finally retiring at age 82. There are many "works of Art" in the bay area.
Art lived a full life, in his younger days he enjoyed fishing and boating with good friends and family. In mid-life he enjoyed skiing, camping in the Sierra's and at the coast and golfing, making life-long and cherished friends along the way. He filled our life to the overflow mark, we miss him so.
Surviving Art is his loving wife Diane, of Los Altos, and their beloved four children: Gary Gass (Cindy Blackwell and Lane) of San Jose; Tammy Bongiorno (Jim) of Morgan Hill; Gina Brownson (Chris) of Cupertino; Michelle Di Sibio (Rodney) of San Jose. Cherished grandchildren: Nick, Ginelle and Alayna Bongiorno; Tanner, Taylor and Eric Di Sibio; and Amanda Brownson. Sisters-in-law: Rosalie Maciel and Toni Parga. Nephews and nieces: Bill, Judy and Linda; Fred, Rainie and Chris. He is preceded in death by his son Steve Gass. Sisters: Rose Savage and Gertrude Costamagna.
The family will celebrate Art's life at the family home on Saturday, May 6th 2017 at 2:00pm. For more information please email the family at [email protected]

HI ...I'M Gary Gass art's son. Today is father's day here in the bay area 061525 . My dad and I use to do allot of fishing [trout] back in the day and allot of snow sking . I MISS the times my dad and I had our alone times together were we could talk about personal things and things we were doing at the time. In 2001 him and I bought a new truck between us for towing our trailers. We were always in competition with each other on how towed or rv trailers
..I miss those Times...we was always nown as the diesle commander. I learned from my dad who was a great man. There were allot of times him and I didn't agree on things but that's ok. Love you dad and miss the hell out of you. Happy father's day
