Brian Young Obituary

On September 5th, Brian Young died after a 12-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family. Like his dad, Brian was a talented athlete. He was introduced to a soccer ball before he could walk. A graduate of Prospect High, he was offered a wrestling scholarship to San Jose State. After college graduation he accepted a marketing position with Time Warner. One of his favorite assignments was interacting with Steve Young of the SF 49ers, who appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.A rare form of cancer, paraganglioma, a neuroendocrine tumor—which took months to diagnose—ended his working career. The inoperable tumor was large and close to his heart. The Stanford prognosis was not good. After chemo, he had a heart-lung transplant team at UCSF that agreed to remove the tumor that gave him an extra 10 years to see his boys grow from children to young adults. He will forever be remembered by his welcoming smile, his kindness and compassion. He cared deeply for family and friends and would only find the good in people. Brian fought long and hard and NEVER GAVE UP.Brian is survived by wife Bonnie, sons Brennan and Brady, grandson Brodie and Barbara, his mother. At his request, a celebration of life, where he was surrounded by loved ones was held last year. His final resting place is next to his dad. Family plans a private interment.Donations can be made to NCAN:www.netcancerawareness.org or the charity of your choice.

Sending condolences and prayers to all of Brian's family and friends. Brian was a great friend during Junior High and High School. I really wish we hadn't loss contact after HS. I thought of him often and truly cherished our friendship. He was one of the best guys I knew during my school years. May he R.I.P....
