Calvin Seid

Industrial Designer, Mentor, Friend. Mr. Calvin Seid, 46, of Palo Alto, CA, died suddenly on April 6, 2007 from coronary artery disease. He was born on June 18, 1960 in Oregon, the son of the late Wallace B. Seid and Linda Tso Seid. He graduated as class valedictorian from Oregon City Senior High School. He later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend San Jose State University. His degree in Industrial Design led him to work in several local design consultancies until he landed the job of a lifetime with the prestigious industrial design group at Apple Computer in 1993. Working with the best designers and engineers brought him much joy. His ability to bring the right people together to solve complex problems contributed greatly to bringing conceptual dreams into reality. Together with his colleagues, Mr. Seid is named on 80 US patents. He was a friend and colleague to hundreds of Apple employees and proud to be a Director there.Mr. Seid loved the open road and would spontaneously jump in a car and journey with his friends to explore new places. At times, he would journey on miles of unpaved roads just to see where they would go. Often, these trips would end at his next love. Food. His constant curiosity to try new things developed him into an encyclopedia of fine dining. His sharing and giving nature brought many of his friends and colleagues to the finest restaurants around. The little boy in him would be happy with a simple peanut butter sandwich.Mr. Seid is survived by his half brother Vincent Seid, MD of Los Gatos, CA, his nephew Michael K. Seid of Fremont, his cousin Winnie Tso of Fremont, CA., and other cousins.A memorial gathering will take place Friday, April 20th at 10 a.m. Stevens Creek Park - Villa Maria site 11401 Stevens Canyon Rd., Cupertino, CA 95014. Donations may be given in Cal's memory to the American Heart Association.
