Thank you Lord for bringing this generous soul into my path of life. I will never forget our PLS days together. You are an inspiration to our community and the world is a better place because you were here. The Black Chamber of Commerce will dedicate ourselves to keeping your memory and community work going.

Thank you Carl Ray. You turned the great tragedy of your life from a source of personal grief into a metaphor for life and the power of forgiveness that touched so many lives. Along with the annual trips to historical Black colleges and lectures to high school students an indelible impression was created. I recall before one lecture to high school students I urged you to include your view on the "N" word. You said you did not use the word and discouraged its use. I also do not use that word and I shared that I could not recall ever hearing my father use that word either. I remember that when you told the students that you did not use that word, you underscored the reason by thumping your chest and loudly - almost shouting - "PAIN !!!"
I am sure the students that heard you speak that morning, still remember that moment. Their lives were marked by your life's message.
Rest in peace brother Carl Ray...

Carl was a generous and caring person. Brightened many days with a visit to my office at Alum Rock School District.
