Carmen Jo Bernal

1934 - 2023

Carmen Jo Bernal also fondly known as Earl, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 10, 2023, at the age of 88. Carmen was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. During that time, he was stationed in Germany as a guided missile crewman. After his honorable discharge, he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. He took great pride in his work. He loved talking about particular land development projects he worked on during his career. Golfing and hunting were just a couple of Carmen's favorite pastimes. He also truly cherished every chance he had to dance with his beautiful wife, Ernestine. Every now and then he savored a good cigar and a little taste of scotch while telling jokes or reminiscing stories at family gatherings. Sometimes, he even gave a little sage advice to someone, hoping to help a little. When it was time to relax, he was always up for a good Western or wartime movie, but most of all, he treasured the time he spent with his family. For Carmen, showing his love to his family was the cornerstone of his life. Carmen was the youngest of Guadalupe and Adela Bernal's nine children. He was predeceased by his parents and son Frank. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ernestine, his daughters Linda Jo (Art Hernandez), Connie, and sons Arnold, Mark (Evelyn Morales), Earl (Lisa Kooyers); as well as his beloved grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Carmen had a beautiful smile and gave the best hugs. His fun-loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.He will never be forgotten and will always hold a special place in our hearts. His family will continue the Bernal legacy in his memory. Family and friends are invited to join us as we honor Carmen's life on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 11:30 am with burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
