Carol Voss Obituary

Carol Louise Norris Voss left this life very reluctantly after 86 years of wonderful living. She was preceded by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart of 62 years (plus 4-1/2 years going steady) Carl F Voss, who put up with her nonsense with great patience. Carol graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954 and blissfully entered The University of California at Berkeley. She graduated with honors in 3-1/2 years and was a member of several honor societies as well as the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. After marrying, Carol then became involved in community service, including the San Jose Junior Women's Club, Alexian Brother Hospital Volunteer League (President) and San Jose Junior League (Charter Member). She was also named San Jose's 1969 Young Woman of the Year. In 1972 she began a working career which culminated as Assistant Hospital Administrator of Kaiser Santa Teresa San Jose in 1994 along with an MBA. In 1999 she and Carl relocated to Prunedale, and she accumulated over 2,000 hours as a volunteer guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and 10 years as a docent for the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas. In retirement, railfanning, train trips (including their 40th and 60th wedding anniversaries) aboard the former CA Zephyr Car Silver Lariat, visiting with the navy bunch, holidays with family, and travels abroad with close friends kept her and Carl busy. In recent years, she acquired quite the following of close friends on Facebook who enjoyed her writings and quips. Somewhere along the way she was the mother of three children, Carl Voss Jr. (Mary), Cindy Voss and Cristy Voss, who put up with her and gave her four wonderful grandchildren, Sarah Voss, Jane Voss, Dante Machi and Ciana Machi. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Norris."I have been greatly blessed and hope I will be remembered with smiles and love." - C....A Celebration of Life will be held at Hodel's Country Dining in Bakersfield, CA at 11:00 am February 2, 2024. A video link to the celebration will be made available on Facebook to all her friends who will be unable to attend.
