Constance Williams Obituary

Constance (Connie) Elizabeth Williams

Resident of San Mateo

55, passed away peacefully at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, CA on August 13, 2011 following an 18 month bout with cancer. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 12, 1955 the oldest daughter of the late Walter H. and Elizabeth Walczak Williams. She was a 1977 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and worked for IBM in both New York and California. Connie was musically and artistically talented and was an avid reader with special interests in politics, history, genealogy, languages and Russian childrens literature. She kept in frequent contact with her family in the US and abroad, traveling the country and also to Bermuda, England, and Ireland to meet and learn more about relatives and ancestors. Connie also kept in touch with friends, neighbors and colleagues and incorporated her creative spirit into all her endeavors. She delighted friends and family alike with unique gifts she carefully purchased or hand made.

She had a strong sense of adventure as she found joy in traveling and enjoyed professional sports, including Major League Baseball. She attended several World Series games as well as the Miracle on Ice in Lake Placid, NY during the 1980 Winter Olympics. Additionally, she was a gardener, cook and baker who liked sharing her culinary creation with friends and family. She was very devoted to her pet cats over the years, especially her last cat, Nefertiti. Connie was a valued member of the genealogy resource volunteer staff at the Menlo Park Family History Center in California.

Connie is survived by two sisters, Maura Williams (& Mary Lou Hartzler) of Lansdowne, PA and Kristin Williams of Pittsburgh, PA.

Connie will be remembered for her generosity, creativity, thoughtfulness and devotion to family, friends and pets and for her appetite for life, and strength and determination despite challenges. Connie was still engaged in life and talking about future plans and hopes until the day of her hospitalization on August 5, 2011. Connie was interred in Ellwood City, PA near her childhood home of Pittsburgh.

A memorial gathering, hosted by friends of Connie, will be held at the Menlo Park Family History Center (Stake House Annex), 1105 Valpariso Avenue, Menlo Park, CA on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 6:00 PM. The gathering will include a potluck dinner, to which attendees may bring a dish to share, if they wish.
