The Phelps Family,
We are so sorry for your family's loss. Thank you for for sharing with me today and giving us the chance to read about Dane and remember him. I can tell from your words he was an incredible little boy and each day with him was a gift. What a blessing he had a family who loved him so well! And, how good it is to know Jesus does have him in His arms, and someday, you will be all together again! You are in our family's prayers! Todd, Ileen, Jake, Sarah, and Ben

I just learned of Dane's passing today. I read his obituary and he must have been one special little guy. I could tell from the picture that I saw of him today at the office that he had a smile that would melt your heart :). Our family's prayer is that you feel God's comforting hand.

Dr.Phelps and Family...
I learned of your loss today through another patient. I too have lost a family member. I lost my most favorite cousin Curtis,7 years ago. I know that your Dane is with my Curtis and they are playing ball, running, and smiling down on all of us. But mostly, they are pain free now. The pain is great...but memories and pictures keep you strong. May god bless you and your wife and all your family.

Your story of life is inspirational. It shows that all sadness is replaced with love and memories. It reveals the true spirit in us all to "seize the day." Dane's story reads as if he did just that and left an indelible impression on everyone fortunate enough to be touched by him. They say a picture is worth 1,000 words; His picture here says to me that he loved the very essence of each day and spread a little of himself around the world with each breath he exhaled.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived
okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here
is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you
every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up
and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were
gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for
me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's
chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life
on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not
be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But
one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a
time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will
give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day
was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the
way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick
him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in
your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember
you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Suzanne and Eric, Words cannot express the pain of losing a child. I remember seeing Suzanne at St. Timothy's when JT was in Preschool and talking about Dane. I know he was a special child and Heaven has a special angel now. May the Lord hold you in His loving arms and give you peace.

Dear Eric and family,
We were stunned to hear the news this week of little Dane's passing. We so loved hearing about the excitement of what was happening with your young growing family as we came in for our girls orthodontic appointments! We never had the pleasure of meeting Dane - we missed his visit to the office!- but knew he was so loved - it was given away in your smile as you talked about him, Eric. Lucius Seneca said: "As is a tale, so is life: Not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters." We could all tell that Dane was incredibly loved - by the look in your eyes. How lovely that he chose your family to bless with his short time here, and how lovely of you all to love him so!
Hugs and best wishes,
The Hunter Family

Dr, Phelps,
You have told me about your precious son Dane during our visits to your practice. Since my son also had a difficult start and several medical conditions, I can relate to how very special a relationship is with a child that has special needs. I think that children such as Dane are extremely strong and courageous as they face each day with challenges. It sounds like Dane had a lot to give and enriched everyone's life he came in touch with. I have only seen a picture of him and he looks very adorable and charming. I want to wish you and your family my deepest sympathies in this difficult time of learning how to live each day without your precious Dane physically present. But I trust his blessed soul will survive and live on in all of you.

Dr. Phelps and family,
I are so very sorry for the loss of Dane. I believe he is in a special place but I can't imagine your sorrow and may this prayer help a bit.
Bless those who mourn, eternal God,
with the comfort of your love
that they may face each new day with hope and the certainty that nothing can destroy the good that has been given. May their memories become joyful,
their days enriched with friendship,
and their lives encircled by your love.
Amen.
Take care

Although my few meetings with Dane were brief, I immediately noticed there was something special about his little spirit. There was a pure joy about him and I loved hearing his little laugh when I spoke to him over the phone using my best Goofy and Mickey impersonations.
Having met him truly touched my heart and I shall never forget his wonderful soul.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Phelps Family,
I never met Dane but enjoyed hearing about him from his dad when my kids came in for their ortho appointments. His sunny personality and loving disposition was such a blessing to his family and all who did get to meet him. May you all find some peace in the knowledge that Dane was called home, and that his suffering has ended. Our hearts just ache for you.
God Bless,

Dear Eric,
Never in my life have I witnessed a man who appeared to have lost everything in a single moment. I am so sorry for your loss. I now know the pain of losing someone so special. If there is ever anything positive that comes from such a tragic loss I wanted to let you that in your strength I felt blessed. As ironic as it may seem, Dane's passing has made me take a deeper look at where my faith lies and the power that resides there. My condolances to you and yours. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Suzanne, Eric, Chandler and Cade,
You are an amazing family. You never gave up the fight to cure Dane in this realm of life. Now Jesus has restored Dane's little body. He's dancing and singing with his heavenly Daddy. Suzanne and Eric, find peace in knowing God gave Dane the best parents on this earth. You will be called upon to help other parents who will be blessed with your testimony. Cade and Chandler, you were the most awesome big brother and sister. You Mom and Dad are so proud of you. Dave and Loretta, I hope to learn by your example of being the loving and giving grandparents you are. We love all of you, you all have a special place in our hearts. You all reflect the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. May your love and faith increase with your loss.

Suzanne, Eric, Cade & Chandler,
It is difficult for me to be as eloquent as Dane deserves when my heart is so heavy. Suzanne and Eric, you worked so tirelessly to give that little boy the best and most joyful life any little one could ever have. We all know that you were successful in that work because everyone who met Dane felt all of the joy and love in his soul. What an amazing give to give a child! Cade and Chandler, you are wise beyond your years and you each knew that it was your privilege to have Dane for a brother. Dane has inspired me to work harder to be the best mother, wife and friend that I can be. I will forever carry the lessons that I have learned from everyone in your family.
We love all of you.

Eric and Suzanne…
Dane was an amazingly spirited boy that brought so many smiles to my life and truly touched my heart as well as the heart of many others. No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My heart hurts for you; my deepest condolences are with you as you grieve your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your family.

Eric, Suzanne, Cade & Chandler,
I want to thank all of you for allowing me to be a part of Dane's very special life. I feel so fortunate to have received so much love from Dane these last couple of years. His happy and grateful spirit taught me how to appreciate life and all that God gives us; even when life doesn't seem fair.
Dane filled my heart with so much happiness, especially when he'd scream my name in the mornings when I'd walk through the door.
Some of my favorite memories were when we'd sing together, usually while getting him ready for the day. He especially liked it when I'd substitute a word in a song with his name. One we'd always sing together went, "Mr. Dane, Dane, Mr. Golden Dane, please shine down on me..." This simple children's song has so much meaning to me, because it describes exactly what Dane was for so many people; a golden light that shined so bright it instantly warmed your heart and soul.
Dane Christian Phelps will always live and shine in a very special place in my heart.
