In Loving Memory of Daniel Kaminski, beloved Father, Grampa, Husband, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.Daniel Kaminski, a longtime Sparks-Reno resident, died at his home in
Sparks, Nevada on September 19, 2022. Born in
Chicago, Illinois on July 25,1936, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Kaminski. He moved to Reno in 1950, and attended Northside Junior High School and Reno High School, where he graduated in 1954. After graduation, Dan served in the US Army at various domestic posts and was discharged in 1957.Dan and Nancy Mansfield fell in love and were married in 1959, and raised their three children together in Sparks until 1982.Dan's career with the US Postal Service began in 1960, where he worked in various clerical and supervisory positions. In 1972 he attended extensive Postal Facility Analyst training classes in San Francisco and then spent the balance of his career as a facilities analyst, working with Postal Service buildings. In 1983 he was promoted and transferred to the postal facility group at the Western Postal Regional Headquarters in
San Bruno, California. In 1986, he was transferred to the Regional Facilities Office itself. He continued at that office until his retirement in 1991.In 1990, he met and fell in love with Linda Byers Thomas of
Milpitas, California. Linda and Dan married in 1991 and made their home in Milpitas. In 1994 Linda was stricken by glioblastoma multiforme, a type of malignant brain tumor. She died at home with Dan at her side 20 months later, in 1996. Dan relocated back to the Reno area in 2001.Dan's favorite pastimes included fine woodworking, listening to classical music, playing the harp, and fishing in lakes and rivers with the kids. In his senior years, Dan was a volunteer handyman for city libraries, webmaster for Reno Seniors, enjoyed dominos with his friends, and kept fit with walks, bikes, and exercise classes.Dan is survived by sons Peter (Johanne) of
San Diego, California; David (Julie) of Nyack, New York; daughter Kathryn (Steve) Bombard, of
Sparks, Nevada; stepson Chris (Pauline) Thomas of
Monterey, California; his dear sisters Joanne, Lucy, and Nancy, all of the Chicago area; many beloved nieces and nephews; and nine grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his wife Linda; his former wife Nancy; and his stepdaughter Amanda Thomas Massi of Ione, California.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
a favorite charity.
