In this wake of sorrow, I find hope in the promise of the memories returned. Today, I grieve for the loss of her touch, the feel of her hand in mine, the smoothness of her cheek against mine, and the sound of her voice.
Yesterday, I watched a small finch circling a cypress tree and swallows darting in and out from their homes of mud. Today, I remember how we laughed watching the blue jays swoop in for snacks left on a shelf just outside the kitchen window.
Just a little while ago, she told me 'I have always loved the little wrens.' I can see her watching them quietly. Others might have seen them just as a common house wren, unadorned in shades of gray and brown instead of vibrant color. I believe she found a beauty that was deeper than the color of their feathers. Instead, she considered the sublimity in their actions; gathering straw and bits of grass to build a nest to raise their young to take flight.
As a small girl, I was star-struck by my mother's beauty. Today, as a woman, I am just as star-struck as I consider her open heart, her tender soul, and her courageous spirit.
I whisper, 'Fly free in the gentle winds of time, and know that I will find you in all of the things you loved with all of your heart.'
And yes, I will feed the kitties.
I love you, Mama...with all of my heart...

Nancy, Susan & Hoyann,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you will miss her terribly. But know too that she is in heaven painting her bird houses and doing what she loves. I can see her doing that with the most beautiful birds flying around her.

My mother was a great mother and a wonderful person. She loved us and others so very much. She was filled with optimism and hope. I miss her so very much.
