Edward Bailey Obituary
Edward James Bailey died Saturday, December 17, 2022 with his loving wife, Virginia, at his side. He succumbed to cardiac amyloidosis and congestive heart failure. He was 82 years old. When he received the devastating news of the cardiac amyloidosis diagnosis, he had two goals: to see his next grandchild (due in February) and to reach his 83rd birthday. This disease took him very swiftly and he did not live to see either of these events. He was born to John and Merle Bailey (nee Bailey) in Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island. He received a Baccalaureate degree in Biology from Providence College. He was accepted into medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN and graduated in June, 1965. He joined the United States Air Force and served 21 years on active duty. He was stationed at RAF Bentwaters, United Kingdom as a general medical officer. He was transferred to Travis AFB, California where he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1973. Scott AFB, in St Louis, was his next assignment. From Scott AFB, he entered a Fellowship for Reproductive Eccrinology and Infertility at University of Southern California. After completing his Fellowship, he was again stationed at Travis AFB, CA where he retired. Edward was employed by The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) who provide the physicians to Kaiser Permanente. He was a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility physician at Kaiser Santa Clara for 20 years. He enjoyed the work especially with the residents. He felt that he had great support from the clinic staff that he worked with every day. He married Thelma Byers after medical school and they have two children, James and Anna.Ed and Virginia married in 1982 and their children are Audrey and Bradley. Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Virginia, and his four children: James (Carolyn) and their 3 children: Josiah, Ebonea, and Samuel; Anna (Ken) and their 4 children: Irvin, Ann Jeannene, Jennelise and Randall James; Audrey (Caleb) and Bradley (Kristina) and their child, Cedric. Funeral service will be held Jan 6th at 11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church in San Jose. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 566 N. Fifth St, San Jose, CA 95112.
