Ellen Mann Obituary

Ellen Mann
March 31, 1953 - August 11, 2016
Los Altos, CA
Ellen Mann lost her battle with breast cancer on August 11, slipping away in the early morning while her family slept nearby. She was loved by everyone she met and will be greatly missed.
Ellen was born in Memphis and spent her early life in Cleveland, Mississippi, where she still has friends. After three years in Tucson, she moved to Palo Alto in time for high school. She lived in Los Altos since 1978.
Ellen was predeceased by her father Jay Mann. She is survived by her mother Myldred Mann of Palo Alto, who turned 94 two days after her youngest child passed away; her husband of twenty years, Renato Tuazon of Los Altos, who cared for her with endless grace and shared her zest for life, her taste in music, and her love of good food; her beloved daughter Maya, of whom she was so proud, and her husband Jason Lujan of Austin, TX; her step-daughters Meg Tuazon and her husband Barak Shemai of Encinitas, and Malinda Tuazon and her fiancée Michelle Dobrow of San Francisco; her sister Cindy Mann and her sister-in-law, Sostena Romano of Hamden, CT; her brother Marc Mann and his wife Margaret of Hamden, CT; her ex-husband Kevin Worley and his wife Anne; her step-mother Penny Bauer of Whidbey Island, WA; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a great-nephew. Ellen never missed a family event, traveling as far as Birmingham, Atlanta, Chicago, New Haven, New York and New Orleans to celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries , Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.
Ellen's family included her many friends. She is survived by Peggy McGill, her best friend from their days at Cubberley High; and by her "work husband" Larry Bloom, with whom she worked for 36 years until their synchronized retirement from the DeAnza College Adapted Physical Education department where they helped people with disabilities improve their lives. Her family also included the many dogs and cats she rescued and cherished over the years. Ellen requested that contributions in her memory go to the Peninsula Animal Shelter: https://www.peninsulahumanesociety.org/
A private memorial service will be held in October.

Ellen was a very special person to everyone. She was such a caring, energetic, lively, kind and loving person. She contributed to my mother's strength to live on during her last year's as a survivor of a stroke.

My family will always be thankful.

I could not believe the sad news when I returned from vacation to De Anza College. Ellen chaired the Professional Growth committee and assisted many classified professionals to receive their PGA awards. This was only one of many volunteer tasks she took on while working at De Anza. I enjoyed working with her during the two years I served as classified senator. My heartfelt condolences to Renato and family.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. Forever our friend. Forever live in our hearts. I still remember how much my daughter enjoyed all those birthday gifts from you. She loved each story book and every lovely cute dress you handpicked for her. Ellen, you're the most cheerful person who had the most beautiful smiles I've ever known. I will miss you so much!

She is still alive in my heart. A few weeks before she left we were going to go for munchies at a little place I found and never made it... I will buy a plate in her honor. I considered her one of my best friends and will miss our walks and talks and munchies and our laughter. Luckily Internet is working for me for this moment to be able to post this from Burning Man. I will write something in the Temple for you Ellen and it will be delivered to you in the stars when the Temple burns Sunday. Love you forever. XOXO Sandi

Ellen became a dear friend of our entire family when my Mother, Aida Pestarino, became part of her Adaptive Physical Therapy class at DeAnza College in the early 2000's. My Mother thought the world of her as did I. Ellen was a warm, genuine human being whose sincere efforts and mere presence gave everyone a big lift and put smiles on faces. Our Deepest Sympathy goes out to the entire Family.
