Esther Calvanico Obituary

Esther Ruth Calvanico (Picone)
June 18, 1935 - Feb. 22, 2016
Resident of San Jose
Born in San Jose to Rose and John Picone, Esther was one of eight children, grew up in San Jose and attended San Jose High School. She graduated with honors as a member of The Society of Torch & Laurel. While attending high school, she worked at Dick's Bakery and after graduation worked at Household Finance.
She was married to Samuel Calvanico in June of 1957. Sam and Esther first lived in Oakland and later moved to Reno and then Sparks, Nevada where they raised their son, Marc. Esther was active in her church in Sparks and was both a church secretary and treasurer. She also taught Bible classes.
From 1974 to 1997, Esther was employed at Saratoga High School in the Admissions office and then in the Guidance office where she was an administrative assistant. She processed the permanent records and transcripts of thousands of students over 23 years and produced the honors program each year.
Esther enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending time with her sisters, brothers and her entire family. She was able to travel across Europe with her husband and to China with her niece, Sharon.
She is survived by her son Marc, sister Elizabeth, brothers John and Richard, many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Esther is preceded in death by her husband Sam, her parents, Rose and John, sisters Mary, Dorothy and Susan and brother Salvador.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 29th at 10am in Chapel of the Oaks with a burial to follow.

Esther was our classmate at San Jose High School. Over the years we lost contact, and were surprised to learn she lived in our area of Sparks, NV. We offer our condolences to her family. We remember something said long ago by Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." God bless you with much comfort and peace.
