Ethan Carothers Obituary

Ethan Edward Carothers, 47, died suddenly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin of a heart attack on February 6, 2022. Ethan was a fifth-generation Californian but decided to head east in 2021 where he found golden opportunities for property. He purchased a home and was renovating a kitchen floor at the time of his death. Ethan was born in Santa Clara, California to Frederick and Susan Carothers on September 24, 1974. Ethan was a kind, generous, loving and self-directed soul. He is greatly missed by family and friends. He attended San Jose Unified Schools and thrived at the Willow Glen Elementary School. At age 10, he entered the Selma Olinder Gifted and Talented Program where he blossomed under teacher Sharon Ferguson in the studies of art and language. He earned awards for outstanding self-portrait, student-council service, and citizen of the month.Ethan had a great sense of humor, loved pets and animals, and the great outdoors, remembers one friend. "He was unique and authentic," said another friend. A childhood girlfriend lamented, "I wish I had married Ethan!"At age 15 while briefly attending a high school in San Francisco Unified School District, he was offered a scholarship to an art academy in New York City. He declined, instead he tested and achieved an early high school diploma at age 16. Next he was off to Florence, Italy. There, he expanded his talents in art into the design of clothing, jewelry, and masks as well sketches in pen and ink. Many creations are at the family home in Willow Glen and have become treasured art pieces.Ethan lived an adventurous life and considered the entire Bay Area his home. His work was his play and he explored a variety of careers. He made pizza in Campbell, drove a taxi in San Francisco, and worked in Oakland at the zoo. His final position was with an energy company in Palo Alto.In a two-year stint in Arkansas, he completed training as an electrician at the Arkansas Community College. He worked as an apprentice in that state before returning home realizing that wiring electricity was not for him. He hungered for the great outdoors in California and became a licensed dog-walker serving dog-owners in the hills above Oakland and Berkeley. Ethan was a life-long member of the Do It Now Club founded by his father, Frederick. This taught him to fix anything broken he encountered and to do it now. One of his life-long philosophies was "The early bird gets the worm." He was sure to be early for most everything. He leaves Susan Carothers (mother), Forest Carothers (brother), Stephanie Angeli (aunt). Frederick Carothers, (father) predeceased him.

Happy birthday, dear Ethan. You were born on this day at 8:02 am 48 years ago and I miss you every day. Your soft baby skin and black curly locks made you a joy to hold and snuggle with ... your sudden smile and giggle a plus!

My first kiss and one of the greatest Loves of my life.

He was also one of my best, and one of my longest lifelong friends.

Ethan knew most my every heartbreaks, my biggest mess ups, my biggest joys, and soul felt secrets. And I knew his too. We didn't hold back on sappy reflections in life.

He knew me. and I knew him. He added color and alot of adventure.
He always had a welcoming bear hug, an infectious giggle, and encouraging words to get me through lifes bumps and bruises. He also was there at some of my biggest and daring moments, to hold my hand and make sure of my safety, but also my fun. He always believed in the power of friendship and being open and deep in conversations about just about anything. I had many of spiritual chats with him about God and the eternal connections. We would go on walks and talk, even when we were young, then in teens and as adults. He did not believe in ever being bored- he loved to create and we spent much time creating every type of art. He was my Matt Dillion, my Pollyanna, my Bilbo Baggins, my Elfin magic, my double dog dare you/ ride or die type friend. My first blush, my ride when I had a flat, my great encourager of artistic dreams and creating. He shared so much dancing and music with me, so much joy. I vividly remember his dancing moves, big smile and seeing pure joy beam from our faces on the dancefloor.

He was Brilliant. And I'll remember him warm, encouraging, kind, creative and giggly . I love him very much and see his essence reflected in the nature's giddiness around me, especially animals. And sailboats.

I miss him everyday, but am encouraged that I will see him again one day in the next adventure in the afterlife.

He made a humongous difference in my life just by being my precious friend. A good hugger and a welcoming smile. Thank you Ethan. And thank you Susan for being his mother and sharing your son.

Forever in my prayers,
Rest in Peace Ethan and now you know .

Respectfully and Lovingly,
Keturah

reading the lovely words sent by my sister, Ethan's mother, brought tears to my eyes, all true, he was such a cool guy, I was always proud of him, he had such a love for animals, as I do, so now he is with his dad, our parents, and Uncle Art, for us we just miss him, and always will.
