Franc Fallico Obituary

Dr. Franc G. Fallico, M.D. Chief Medical Examiner, State of Alaska Dr. Fallico passed on peacefully,with his beloved wife Hisa by his side, on June 14th, 2008,just before midnight in the city and state he loved, Anchorage, Alaska. He was diagnosed with Leukemia over two years ago, and succumbed to a high grade Lymphoma at age 66. Born in Chicago, IL to Arturo B. and Josephine "Peppina' Fallico he began his early education in Chicago, later moving with his sister Giulie,and brother Peter to Campbell, CA - then settling on Bird Avenue in Los Gatos, California, where his youngest brother Arturo was born. Franc attened Louise Van Meter School, then went on to Los Gatos High School graduating in 1960. While in school he enjoyed: auto shop hot rodding, going out with his buddies to Magoo's Pizza,The Burger Pit, and Spivey's '5' Spot. The Fallico family resettled to Mt. Eden Road in the mid 1950's, where a modern house was designed and built by Dr. Arturo B. Fallico and Architect Al Mc Known. On Mt. Eden Road Franc formed a postive, rewarding and lasting relationship with the Garrod and Cooper families. Franc worked in the Garood Farms fruit house, picked and cut 'apricots with his sister Guilie at Garrod Farms, as well as worked at Martin Ray Winery with Martin and Eleanor Ray, Franc loved to hunt and fish, and the hunting on Mt. Eden Road he enjoyed the most. Every year for the next 40 years he would 'scout' deer on the family property or go with Richard Dick' Garrod high in the Saratoga hills to 'scout' for more deer. He was influenced by his father to study medicine in Italy, after attending San Jose State University majoring in Biology. He attended the University of Bologna in the mid 1960's where he met Norman Zuckerman a lifelong friend.After attaining his medical degree he interned at Long Island College Hospital and Boston University, then later went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further medical training in Pathology. Franc loved the outdoors, so moving to Anchorage, Alaska seemed a perfect fit. He began working as a Pathologist in the early 1970's taking his wife and daughter, Ann.He was a doctor at Providence Hospital for over 20 years - then in early 2000's he accepted a position as Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Alaska, a job he loved and worked hard at until his untimely death. Franc always loved his profession and found his work challenging and rewarding and the collaboration among like minded professionals was a great pleasure..Franc retired as Chief Medical Examiner for the state in 2008. Franc was honored to be in the Werner Herzog documentary "Grizzly Man' where he played himself.It was a nationally shown movie with good reviews. Franc will be greatly missed by family, colleagues, friends and neighbors. Dr. Fallico leaves behind a loving wife, Hisa, daughter Marissa Francesca, a former wife, Jan and two daughters,Ann Marie and Sara Lynn, and grandson Tylor Acheson, all from Alaska, as well as a beloved brother, Pete (Jo Ann), Fallico from San Jose,CA,two nieces, Andrea and Laura,a beloved sister Guilie Fallico Di Perna(Dr Aldo Di Perna. MD), from San Jose one nephew, Dr.Zino Di Perna MD (Dr.Danielle MD), and one niece, Monica Concetta Di Perna, along with his youngest beloved brother, Arturo G. Fallico IV. Special Educator from Saratoga. Private funeral ceremonies will be held in Alaska and California.

I will miss my oldest brother Franc immensely. He was an adventurer -enjoyed traveling to places that were unique and colorful. He loved the state of Alaska and the city where he lived, Anchorage.
