Franz Kolterer
5-21-31 - 2-21-07Franz Kolterer passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 21, 2007. He had been struggling with advanced Parkinson's Disease. Franz Kolterer was born in Ljublanja, Slovenia in 1931. As a young boy Franz's dream was to immigrate to the U.S. and he did so in 1954 with only $38 in his pocket. Shortly after he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was dispatched to Germany. Coming to California in 1957 he soon started working in the Semiconductor Industry. An early pioneer and entrepreneur of the Silicon Valley, Franz started his first etching company in 1961 called Micro Science, which later merged with Plessey of England. Franz founded the well known Koltron Corporation semiconductor company in Sunnyvale in 1974. Franz is survived by his wife Julie and children Peter, Johnny, Franz Jr., Ricky, and Tanya as well as two grandchildren Jesse and Codi Kolterer. Franz's passion was flying and skiing in the Lake Tahoe area and driving his 1967 911 Porsche. He took pleasure in traveling to Europe visiting relatives with his wife and children. A rosary will be held at Spangler's Mortuary in Los Altos Monday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 PM. A private family burial will be held Wed. at 11:00 AM.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Franz hired me in 1979. I worked in Production until 1994. I worked in Sales from 1994 - 1998. Franz was very instrumental in my growth in the semiconductor industry. I enjoyed working with Peter, Johnny and Franz Jr.

I always enjoyed working for you in the early days of Koltron as the inside salesman. You and Bob Ruth both gave me my start in the Semiconductor Industry and I am forever thankful. .
