Gilbert Dedinsky Obituary

Gilbert A. Dedinsky M.D. Passed peacefully into eternal rest at home surrounded by family on Jan. 30, 2010, at the age of 86. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol J. (Boudreau) Dedinsky, sons Scott Dedinsky, wife Lou, grandsons Nick and Michael of Omaha, Nebraska; Greg Dedinsky M.D., wife Pam and grand daughters Kendal, Kaylin, Lauren, and Elissa Of Indianapolis, Indiana, and his daughters Suzanne (Dedinsky) Broski and husband Jim and granddaughter Christine of Littleton, Colorado, and Amy (Dedinsky) Milani and husband Mark and grandson Douglas and granddaughter Jennifer of Saratoga, Calif. He will be welcomed into eternal life by his father, John Dedinsky, mother, Helen Zeleznock Dedinsky, brothers, Joseph and John Dedinsky, sisters, Agnes Dedinsky Bauer and Frances Dedinsky and grandson Christopher Dedinsky. Dr. Dedinsky's parents immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Pennsylvania. Gilbert was born at home in Bentleville, Pennsylvania on March 24, 1923. He attended Windy Hill School, Smock Grade School, Benjamin High School in Uniontown, West Virginia University (Army Specializes Training Program) and Marquette University Medical School. He graduated from the Medical School in 1947. His internship, two years of medical residency plus two years of surgical residency was completed at St. Joseph's Hospital Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He then served as a flight surgeon in the Air force for two years holding the rank of Captain during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Victory Medal. Upon return from Korea, Dr. Dedinsky completed his third year of surgical residency at St. Joseph's Hospital Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr Dedinsky married his wife Carol in 1955. His fourth year of surgical residency was completed at Salt Lake County General Hospital, Salt lake City, Utah in 1956. Dr. Dedinsky then went on to participate in the burn research program at the University of Utah under Dr. Philip Price and ultrasound surgical applications under Dr. Peter Lindstrom at the Salt Lake County General Hospital. They moved from Salt Lake City to California where Gil began his private General Surgery practice in 1957. During his professional career, he was associated with San Jose Hospital, O'Connor Hospital, Alexian Brothers Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. He was also a member of the Santa Clara County Medical Society, American Medical Association, California Medical Association and the San Jose Surgical Society. He retired in 1991 after 44 years of surgical practice. Dr. Dedinsky lived by three guiding principles- his strong Roman Catholic faith, his endless love for his family and his dedication to his profession. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed being with family, gardening, watching sports and listening to classical music. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Dr. Dedinsky was extremely appreciative of the gentle care and sustainment of his health by his dedicated physician, Dr Lewis Haut. Visitation will be held on Friday Feb. 5th at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd Santa Clara, from 4 to 9 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6th at 9:30 am at Queen of Apostles Church, 4911 Moorpark Ave, San Jose Calif. 95129 Memorial donations may be made to Queen of Apostles Church, or Morgan Autism Center, 2280 Kenwood Ave San Jose, Ca 95128

Dear Carol and Family,

Our deepest condolences for your great loss. We have so many fond memories of Dr. Dedinsky and you from our days working in the Johnson, Seipel and Knoernschild office. He was such a wonderful and warm person. We have thought of you both often and have missed running into you and Dr. Dedinsky. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
