Gloria Hill passed away Monday evening while in recovery at a rehabilitation center due to an illness that had weakened her over the Holidays. She was a spirited woman whose life as a Military wife, devote mother, and loving grandmother was an adventure and inspiration.
Gloria was born in Yakima, WA and graduated with honors from R.A. Long High School in Longview, WA. She earned a degree in Education with a minor in Art from Washington State University where she met her future husband, Glen A. Hill (deceased COL. U.S. Army). Prior to their marriage, Gloria taught school in Spokane, WA and also worked for a local radio station. They began their marriage in Longview WA, where Glen was for a short time a Sargent for the Longview Police Department. Having previously served in the military for three years in Europe during WWII, Glen decided to go back into the Army as an Officer, and thus began Gloria's adventurous career as an Army wife. During the next thirty years they made approx. twenty-five moves to various locations through-out the United States, Germany, and Brazil. Gloria mothered three sons, Michael A. Hill (Retired U.S. Army COL), Jeffrey S. Hill (Retired U.S. Army LTC), and Kevin D. Hill. Gloria also continued to substitute teach whenever the opportunity arose, to include work as a Red Cross volunteer. Gloria and Glen moved to Sunnyvale in 1974.
Gloria (Nana) is survived by her three sons, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Gloria will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, feisty intellect, artistic talent, fun loving humor, and above all else her love for her children, grandchildren, and family.
There will be a family and close friends Celebration of her Life at the Hill home in Sunnyvale Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Gloria will then be joined with her husband, Glen, the following day at the Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, CA.
