Harmon Nelson Obituary

Harmon Howard Nelson, Jr.

Resident of Sunnyvale

82 , passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Sunnyvale on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

Howard lived most of his adult life in Sunnyvale with short stays in Beaverton, Oregon and McAllen, Texas. He was born on July 12, 1928 in Sonora, California. He spent much fondly remembered time during his childhood on his grandfather's ranch near Moccasin, California. He graduated from Albany High School in 1947 and studied at San Jose State before leaving to start a family with his wife Phyllis Jean Nelson. They raised three children in Sunnyvale, while Howard worked at several Silicon Valley companies including Raychem Corp., Granger Associates and JM Company. After Phyllis' untimely death in 1976, Howard remarried Margaret Nelson who predeceased him.

Howard will be much missed by his son and daughter-in-law Ross and Diane Nelson of San Jose, daughter Julie Nelson of Sunnyvale and daughter and son-in law Laynette and Bruce Blackfield of Los Altos, his grandchildren Kim and Michael Blackfield, Shelby and Kelsey Matsuoka, and Katie Hogan, and his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Joan Nelson. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his strong work ethic, his compassion, his enjoyment of golf, his love of the outdoors, specifically the Mother Lode country of California, and his keen interest in politics.

Fond memories. He hired me at Granger in 1968 which began a 12 year career for me in the company and much more. Most importantly, he was the first one to get me hooked on golf which stuck with me for decades till my back gave out. God bless, Howard!
