Harrett Mannina Obituary
MANNINA, SR., HARRETT W.- 81, of San Jose, passed away on October 5, 2002, two days before his 82nd birthday. Harrett was the much loved husband of Barbara Mannina; loving father of son, Harrett, Jr., and daughter, Susan Willoughby, and her husband, Jim. He was also the loving grandfather of three grandchildren Dustin Mannina and Ashlyn and Ryan Willoughby. Harrett is survived by many dear friends and relatives.
A native Californian, born in San Jose on October 7, 1920, the only child of Tony and Ellen Mannina, Harrett was a graduate of San Jose High School, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at San Jose State College and a Bachelor of Laws degree at Hastings College of the Law. Harrett had a dedicated and enriching law career as an attorney in San Jose, first opening his law offices in 1946 at what was then the First National Bank Building at the corner of Santa Clara and First Street. Shortly thereafter he moved his offices across the street to the Bank of America Building wherein he met his wife of 55 years, Barbara. In 1956, after the completion of his own office building, he moved his practice to 510 North First Street, wherein he continued to practice law until his passing.
During his long and successful career as an attorney, Harrett was known for his meticulous preparation, knowledge of the law, and tenacious representation of his clients. During and through his legal career he developed many life long friendships and was one always willing to help somebody in need. He was generous with his time and encouragement, often dispensing wisdom and advice to his friends and family. In addition to his law practice, he also found time to acquire and develop many real estate holdings together with a short-lived political career, having run for San Jose City Councilman.
Harrett was a long time member and past president of the local Shriners' association, later becoming a member of the Jesters. He also held membership in the Elks, Optimists International, Antique Automobile Club of America, Italian American Heritage Foundation, Santa Clara County Bar Association, and California Trial Lawyers Association, among others. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying all types of hunting activities, having been on safari in Africa, and deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed spending his free time with his family and friends at his vacation homes in Aptos and Palm Springs. Harrett was also an avid automobile collector.
Harrett touched all those he came in contact with and left a lasting impression. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services are Thursday, October 10, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at the OAK HILL FUNERAL HOME, CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, San Jose. The family respectfully requests Memroial Contributions be made to the American Cancer Society In Harrett's name.
