Jake
I met Jake in 1975 when I joined the IBM Research Center and found him
to be very friendly, helpful and full of advice. I always listened to him,
in part, because he would remind me that he was my elder by 5 weeks.
We had a daily 10 am "go for coffee" routine, and regularly met for lunch.
We shared some travel to conferences, and he made the trips enjoyable.
He certainly knew his way around the cities on the east coast; I would just hang on.
On long flights, I slept during the whole flight and Jake read.
He liked to read and didn´t seem to need much sleep.
My favorite line upon landing was, "Are we here, ALREADY?"
Since Jake seemed to always be in the lab, I have difficulty picturing him in retirement.
I retired first and have missed him; the interactions, coffee breaks.....
He was the friend and colleague to have.
My deepest regrets to Nancy and their daughters; I continue to miss Jake.
