James Day Obituary

James W. Day
Oct. 19, 1930 - Aug. 18, 2022
Campbell
Born to Littleton Marion Day and Grace Shouse Day.
Survived by wife of 71 years: Patricia Roberts Day; children: Bill (Maggie) and Kevin Day; daughter Melanie Day Black (Jeff); grandchildren: Mathew Day, Adam (Anna) Day, Amanda Day, Reagan Black and Patrick Black; three great grandchildren: Luke, Caleb and Kara Day; sisters: Genevie Lane, Elaine Day; brother Robert Day (Shirley); many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brothers George Day and Marion Day; sisters Rosalene Julian, Ruth Lily, Virginia Quesenberry.
Jim was born in Muleshoe, Texas and at 11 years old, the family moved to Modesto, California. During World War 2 when farm labor was scarce, Jim drove a tractor at 12 years of age. He graduated from Modesto High School in 1949 and then earned an Associate of Arts degree from Modesto Junior College in 1951.
Jim and Pat moved their young family to Saratoga, CA in 1955 where Jim began working with his two brothers, George and Marion, in the home building business. He started his own custom home building business in 1960 and continued building until 1981. Following his retirement from the construction business, Jim obtained his real estate sales and broker's licenses and remained in that industry until full retirement in 2012.
Jim was a long-time (and many-a-long-suffering) 49er season ticket holder. He also enthusiastically followed the San Francisco Giants baseball and Golden State Warriors basketball teams.
Summers of boating and water skiing at various lakes (particularly Lake Shasta), winter snow skiing, and RV'ing throughout the United States were great passions.
Jim was an avid golfer and Chapel attender at The Villages of San Jose for the last 25 years. Amid declining health in early 2022, Jim and Pat moved to Sonnet Hill Senior Living in San Jose.
Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him. He truly loved what he did and did what he loved.
A graveside service will be held at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga on September 2, 2022, at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's honor may be made to Guide Dogs for the blind or a charity of your choice.
