James Hammers Obituary

James G. Hammers

Dec. 26, 1930-Jan. 11, 2011

Resident of San Jose

Jim Hammers passed from this life on January 11, 2011. He leaves his wife, Wanda, sons, Mark (Susan), grandson Matthew; Garth (Wendy), step grandson Griffin. He also leaves a brother, William, of Memphis, TN, and a nephew, Chuck Hammers of Los Gatos. CA along with many extended family and friends.

Jim was born and raised in Memphis by his parents, Peyton and Ida Hammers, who have preceded him in death, along with his brother, Charles "Gus". His interests were many throughout his life - planes, boats, cars and toy trains, as well as the many customized improvements he made to our home.

A diagnosis in late August 2010 revealed Jim had a particularly aggressive brain tumor, a glioblastoma multiforme. He also had Parkinson's these last four years.

A memorial service will be held at the Stone Church of Willow Glen, 1937 Lincoln Ave in San Jose on January 29, 2011 at 2:00 pm. A reception at the church will follow the services. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Parkinson's Institute, 675 Almador Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94085; Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Ave., San Jose, CA 95124., or your favorite charity.

Mrs Hammers, Mark & Garth,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I last spoke with Mr Hammers about 3 years ago at a Model T Ford Event. I had just blown up my engine, he giggled and proceeded to point me in the direction of reconditioned parts. Mr Hammers instilled in me a passion for old cars, to this day I have three of them cluttering up my garage. I thank him for the passion that he shared with us all during those early years of High School.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Regards,
Brian Schott and Family

Mark Hammers and Family; please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. Mark spoke of his father many times and the feeling shown was of love and deep respect, I know he will be missed by many. There are no words that could be expressed to ease the loss. It is the thought of caring ones that can provide a healing.
Sincerely

Dear Wanda, Mark and Garth,
What a wonderful generous spirit Jim was and he will be sorely missed. I always looked forward to his presence at all the family gatherings. His sense of humor and real interest in whomever he was talking to was just a few of the many qualities he excelled at. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Dear Wanda and Family,
Love to all of you, as you pass through this time of sadness.
As one of Ted's oldest friends, Jim was always very "special" to us. He was our "Southern Gentleman."
Know that we are with you in thought and spirit. May memories of times past help to sustain you now.
