James Lee Obituary

James Edwin "Jim" Lee
August 17, 1938 - August 5, 2020
Resident of Santa Clara
James Edwin Lee, age 81, went home to God August 5th from heart complications. Surrounded by family, Jim spoke of how fortunate he was for his family, friends, and how full his life was. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marlys. He was the father of Rose Anne and Todd, grandfather to Michael, Tamaya, Jaimee, and Todd Jr. as well as great-grandfather to Melissa, Mason, Amelia, Cayden, Raylan, and Zane. Beloved friend and mentor to many. Born in Markesan, WI to Kenneth and Eleanor Lee. Jim was the 5th of seven boys. From a young age, Jim learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and appreciation of life. Making the most of God's gifts, Jim learned many skills growing up. Eventually meeting the love of his life Marlys, the both of them and daughter Rose Anne made their way to Santa Clara, Ca in 1957 where they would find their permanent home. Jim worked for the 7up Bottling Co. for 37 years holding the #1 route until becoming the sales manager of the fountain and vending division until his retirement in 1998.
With a servant's heart, Jim was an active volunteer for many organizations. He served for El Camino Little League, managing the 7up team for 11 years, helping build 2 fields. As well as coaching for Mission City and Los Altos youth football for 15 years. He volunteered 8 years for Agnew's State Hospital with 4 years as a chairman overseeing many community fundraising events. Jim served 8 years as the Santa Clara Parks Commissioner and 2 years as a chairman. Jim was also a licensed auctioneer, using his talent to help raise funds for numerous organizations.
Because of his love for this country. Jim, his wife, and 2 others made the dream of a Santa Clara City Veterans Memorial a reality in Central Park with no cost to the city. Ceremonies there honoring our military service members continue to this day.
As a member of the Elks for many years, he was awarded the "Elk of the Month", "Elk of the Year", and "Elks Exalted Ruler" awards for volunteerism and achievements. Jim was honored with a California Legislature Resolution for exemplary record of service to the state of California as well as California State Senate Certificate of Recognition for dedication and contribution to the City of Santa Clara Veteran's Day Program. Jim also received the Austen Warburton Award and Image award from the Native Daughters of the Golden West for community service. In 1996, Jim was selected to carry the Olympic torch along El Camino Real from Santa Clara into Sunnyvale because of exemplary life of service to others.
Despite his many accolades, Jim remained a humble and loving family man who's compassionate dedication to family and friends will live on forever.
