James Lindemann Obituary

James Wade Lindemann

Resident of Milpitas

Oct. 2, 1955 - Oct. 7, 2011

Jim passed away the evening of Oct. 7 after a long battle with brain cancer originally treated in 1994 but returned in 2009. Jim worked in the motorcycle racing industry beginning the 1970s and became one of foremost suspension experts in the country. Until Jan. 2011 Jim operated Lindemann Engineering Race Suspension. LE stickers graced the forks of more champions than any other independent suspension expert.

Jim was never in a bad mood and shared his knowledge generously. He loved life and food and motorcycle racing. Jim's private life included his wife, Debra Savage, two cats, Frankie Chili and Nicky Hayden, and an old border collie named Hope.

Jim is survived by his father, Willis Lindemann, of Fargo, ND, his mother, Corrine Lindemann, and his brothers, David and Brad, of San Jose, CA.

Jim's honesty, loyalty and, most of all, his incredible sense of humor will be forever missed. A private celebration of Jim's life is being held by his family and closest friends.

I met Jim about 8 years ago when he started coming to the Troetschler family holiday gatherings with Debra. Jim had known my brother Dave for some years already on both a personal and professional basis. From the beginning Debra and Jim fit in like family. I indeed thought of them as family and I always expected to see them at all family events. It is so true what others are writing about Jim, his humor, kindness and warmth were rare. He was just the nicest and easiest guy to be with that you could ever find. I will miss Jim's warmth especially this holiday season as my father too will not be with us for the first time.

I have so many memories of good times with Jim (Link) that it would take way too long to list here. From the crazy late 70's all the way up to a recent (can't remember the year) MotoGP at Laguna Seca / Mazda Raceway. He would always be ready to help out with any bike suspension issues from the mundane rebuild to a fine "tweaking" of your bike. A true professional. We will all miss you Jim ! Long time associate / friend Jerry

I wish I could be there for Jim's celebration of life. He was a sweet and kind person, not to mention my cousin and friend. When he was here this summer to visit, he was his usual self -- enjoyable, cheerful and funny as heck! God will make good use of him in heaven I am sure with his talents and good humor. Farewell, Cousin Jim.

I worked with Jim for a few years and we became friends and stayed in touch throughout the years. Jim helped me throughout my roadracing career and always spent extra time working with me. Jim was one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. He never got angry and his sence of humor used to brighten everyone's day. I learned so much from Jim throughout the years. I really wish I had another chance to see him smile and hear his laugh. Thank you Jimmy for all of the wonderful memories. You will be forever missed.

I met Jim in the early 90s when I went to him to help service and set up the forks on my Ducati. When I started racing, he helped rebuild the fork on my racebike, and was always willing to help out with setup questions on race weekends. He gave freely of his time and knowledge, and was a racer's best friend. It seems like only yesterday that he replaced the fork seals on my dirtbike, and I remembered thinking how lucky I was to have such a great resource so easily accessible. RIP Jim, you will be missed.
