Dear Gerry, I was looking through the most recent SF Progress and was deeply saddened to see of Jimmy's passing. While I was teaching at SF we met at teacher conferences Jimmy's freshman year. He was in my PE/Health class. I found you to be very caring. I remember him well. Not much talk but lots of work and smiles. He was a good young man and a credit to you and your family. A different lifetime ago. I know that you want your boy back. My wife Susie and I crossed into this dimension in 2005 and know of the kind of pain and emptiness you feel. We grieve with you and pray for you. Yours in His Love, Dick and Susie Adams

Jim, Gerry, and Meghan,
I was so shocked to hear about the passing of Jim Jr. I have been a Raider fan since high school and have kept track of your family through the years. When my brother was 18 he was thinking about going straight into playing pro ball instead of finishing college. I wrote to you Jim when you were with the Patriots and talked to you about my brother Perry Mingos. You wrote on the back of a picture I sent of him and told him to "Stay in school and keep the grades up". He did and is now a deputy sheriff, is very successful in every aspect of life and has a beautiful family. I thank you for taking the time to write back. I will be praying every day for your family to help you get through this and turn the sorrow into the wonderful memories you have of Jim Jr.

Dear Jim and Family,
My wife Bonnie and I were saddened to learn of the passing of your son. Ten years ago you showed great concern for us and great kindness to our 26 year old son who was a patient at Stanford when you came to visit Bill Walsh and his wife, a patient in the same ward. Your character and concern for others has been evident througout your life and it is that which will sustain you as you navigate the difficult journey ahead. You are in our prayers.

Dear Jim and family,
I have not seen you for a very long time...we lived on the same street, Emilie Drive in San Jose. My brother, Willy Morales(now Bill), and you, and others would throw the football to each other in the street. I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your son. I too lost my son, six years ago at 28 to brain cancer. It is the saddest of all life events. May you draw solace and peace from your memories of him. May you find the strength inside yourself to bring you peace and comfort.
Sincerely,

Mary Ann Parker

November 30, 2008

To the family of Jimmy.
I can only imagine your pain. But I have had a son die younger than his time just 2 years ago, and he actually is resting near your dead son in Alta Mesa. My son was an athlete. I think there are many young athletes in that section of the cemetery.

But I just want you to know that my son was also my only child as I believe yours was. It makes it much more difficult, I believe, to endure.

I wish I could say something to make you feel better. But there are no such words in the human language when you lose a child. No words of faith, no words of religion, no words at all. It is the worst thing that can happen to parents....to bury their child.

Please feel free to contact me if you feel the need to talk. You can get my number from the president of my son's cycling club in NorCal. His email address is: [email protected]
You won't have to mention my son's name to get in touch with me.

I obviously still have a need to talk to people who have lost their children. Maybe we can help each other. If not, please be aware that you are not alone and that I grieve your son as though he was my own and the sorrow for your loss is, if not understandable because we are all unique, at least I want you to know I have felt that sorrow. And it's unbearable. Please find solice in people that care.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Parker

Jimmy spent quite a bit of time at our home and was always kind, caring, polite, and cheerful.

I would bake chocolate chip cookies for him since they were his favorite. And in fact would keep plenty of the dough in the freezer ready for baking just in case he popped in.

Jimmy gave our family a beautiful Irish Erin Go Bragh tapestry blanket with shamrocks and the words Friendship, Loyalty, and Love woven into the fabric. He said, "Friendship, Loyalty, and Love make the world go 'round and please think of me whenever you shall use it."

May God Bless You Jimmy and God Bless your family.

November 28, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Plunkett Family,

I am deeply saddened to hear of Jimmy's passing. Although its been years since I last saw Jimmy, I'll never forget what a great kid he was. Mr. Plunkett and my father played basketball together for years and when I began hanging out at the Woodside High School Gym, the other gym rat kids were years older than me. Despite being the youngest and most clueless of the bunch, Jimmy always went out of his way to be nice to me and include me in whatever was going on at the time. My most lasting memory was when Jimmy taught me how to ride a bike one evening. Not too many young kids would go out of their way to be that kind and I'll never forget it. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this tragedy.

Dear Jim,Gerry and Meghan:
I am deeply saddened upon the news of Jimmy's passing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers in this most difficult time. On behalf of the entire Gomez (Walter "Lungie" Gomez) we share your grief and you have our endless support.
I am sorry we did not get to talk more at Dad's tailgate memorial, but it meant so very much to our family that you both attended.
All of my Aloha,
Kendall Gomez
