James Ben Ybarra
Resident of Santa Clara
Born in San Jose in 1929, raised by Max and Maria Ybarra, with his sisters Emily and Gloria, and four brothers; Robert, Joe, Al and Vic. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Ybarra. They were married for 53 years, where they lived in Santa Clara. Their surviving children are Dennis (Sandra), Denise (Jim), Daniel (Maggie), and Diane of Maui, He was preceded in death by his beloved twins, David and Doreen. Ben was deeply devoted to his twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ben served in the Naval Reserve and the Air Force. He was a retired Civil Engineer from the City of Santa Clara. He will be remembered as a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, grandparent, co-worker, friend and neighbor. He belonged to St. Clare Parish where he was active in the Dad's Club, and served as church usher. He also participated in the ICF, Volunteer Firemen, Elks #2347, American Legion, and Mustang Club.
Rosary and viewing will be held Monday, October 17th at 7 p.m., at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd. Funeral services will commence Tuesday, October 18th, 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare's Church. Burial to follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

I just found out through social media that one of my favorite uncle's passed away. My deepest sympathy to his children and their children. I was the flower girl at his and Aunt Betty's wedding. He was an amazing, kind, very giving person. Even though in later years did not get to see him very often, there still is and always will be a special place in my heart for Uncle Ben. Ben was a long time friend and caring man. I worked with Ben at the City for over 25 years. Ben will always be remembered by his friends and coworkers at the City for "I will take one foe a friend". A special and caring person, he will always be remembered by me.

James "Ben" Ybarra was a long time friend. We first met in Kindergarten in 1935 then together we went on to Intermediate School, High School and onto San Jose College after our military service. We joined the Navel Reserves together in 1947 and the Air Force in 1951. In 1955. after our military service, our families became real close and together we had many great times.
Ben and his dear wife Betty, were two of the most loving people our family has ever known. To his dear family, our sincere condolences.

Ben was such a wonderful and caring man. Met him through the Mustang Club and always looked forward to his smile and hug. He was always so giving to others and was so proud and loving to his family, especially his grandchildren. When he was not attending meetings very frequently, he was always ready to open his home for a visit. Rich and I were so flattered when we were invited to his birthday party extravaganza in Santa Clara a few years ago. It was so wonderful to see how many, many people saw him as a good friend. We will certainly miss him, but are glad that he is now with his wife and other family members who preceded him on the journey to the next life. Thank you, Ben, for being such a good friend. We will always love and remember you.
