Jimmy Strickland Obituary

Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by love and in the arms of his daughter in the early morning hours of August 28, 2022. He fought the good fight, but dementia ultimately won, and he went to be with this loving savior, Jesus Christ. He was a generous, caring man who fiercely but quietly loved his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Shirley Bramlett who passed too soon in 1994; and also by his second wife, Wilma (Maggie) Lundstrom, whom he traveled the world with. He was the loving caregiver to both as they struggled with cancer and COPD respectively. That was his way, take care of those you love. He will be greatly missed by his children, Tonya Ward (Greg) of San Jose and Stephen Todd Strickland (Hitomi) of Osaka Japan. His grandchildren: Jessica Jones, Ryan Ward, and Amanda Legare (James), as well as his great-grandchildren who were with him daily over the last 3 years of his life, Brianna and Shea Paulsen. He is also survived by Wilma's children and grandchildren whom he also loved dearly; As well as two sisters, Brenda Lawrence of New York and Judy Whitis (Brad) of Florida and sister-in-law Carolyn Compton (Bob) of Georgia.Raised in a poor rural town in Florida, Jim earned a scholarship to Georgia Tech where he scraped by living at the YMCA and eating mustard sandwiches from time to time to make ends meet. His first job after graduating was for IBM and he worked there for his entire 44-year career, ultimately earning the title of "Distinguished Engineer" before his retirement in 2007.Services will be held in Conyers Georgia where his ashes will be interred next to Shirley's. In lieu of any donations please consider following in his footsteps and offering help to someone in need in whatever way you think best.

I worked with Jimmy for many years at IBM. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known with whom to work. Always pleasant and doen to earth. I haven't seen him in many years since retiring and moving away but just hearing his name again, while in a sad context, brought back many pleasant memories. Thank you Jimmy for being in my life.

Jim's smiling eyes say it all! He was a kind and good friend to many and will be missed. We knew him through Maggie and have missed him these past few years. Our hearts go out to his entire family and we pray your grief is soon replaced with sweet memories of the times you shared. Gail & Jerry Dance

I am so saddened to hear of Jim´s passing. He really was a great guy. I spent many hours at Jim and Maggie´s home and of course at Lou´s Village where I met the two of them. I remember mostly how much he loved the Kentucky Derby, and all horses in general. We have missed him at the Kentucky Derby parties the last few years. I´m sending my condolences and best wishes to all of Jim´s extended family.
