Joane Amy Hendren

Peacefully entered into rest at home on March 17, 2006 at the age of 86. Joane saw the good in everyone and touched the lives of all she met with her laughter and her compassion. She will be missed by all who knew her.Loving wife to Carl Hendren for 60 years. Devoted mother to son Robert Hendren and his wife Kendra; son Kevin Hendren and his wife Shellie; daughter Marion Campisi and her husband Jim. Wonderful grandmother to Ashley Campisi, Kelly Campisi, Jessie Hendren and Grant Hendren.Joane was born on February 28, 1921 in Monterey, California to Osmond and Marion Sanchez. She was a direct descendant of both the Sanchez and Boronda families, both of which figured prominently in the Monterey Spanish Era.Joane graduated from Monterey High School in 1938. She attended Salinas Valley Community College and graduated from Portola College in East Orange New Jersey in 1942. She was president of her local chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was an active member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. During World War II, she worked at the Presidio in Monterey as Secretary to Army Engineers. In 1942, Joane reigned over the Merienda celebration as "La Favorita" or princess, of Monterey's 169th year celebration, representing the Spanish families of Monterey. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Carl, at the San Carlos Church in Monterey. All of her dreams came true when she and Carl adopted the first of three children in 1959. Joane and her husband raised their family in Monterey and San Jose until they retired to the Town of Isleton on the Sacramento Delta in 1987. She returned with her husband to San Jose in May of 2006 where she resided in Willow Glen until her death.All of her life, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting and created many beautiful things which were enjoyed by family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and traveling with her husband. Joane was a devout Catholic all her life and possessed a deep faith in God. She donated generously to many Catholic Charities. Friends are invited to attend the Vigil Service on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Lima Family-Erickson Cathedral Chapel, 710 Willow Street, San Jose, Ca. Funeral Mass Friday, March 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 1576 Curtner Avenue, San Jose. Private family interment San Carlos Catholic Cemetery, Monterey.
