Joe Medina Obituary

Joe D. Medina Passed away peacefully on January 19, 2010 at his home in San Jose. Born on August 4, 1921 in Raso, Arizona to Liandra and Gregorio Medina. Joe grew up in a proud family of migrant farm workers in Southern California and San Jose. As a US Marine, he served his country in the Pacific Theater of World War II including the Battle of Iwo Jima. Later he worked as a Superior Court Clerk for 30 years in Santa Clara County. He was an avid sports fan who favored the Raiders, the Dodgers, USC and boxer Julio Cesar Chavez. A music lover he enjoyed an eclectic collection from opera to mariachi. He was also a voracious reader and classic movie collector. In his last year, he particularly enjoyed time spent maintaining his garden with his caregiver Nati. Joe is survived by ex-wife Elia; his children Christina, Claudia (Marty), Joe Jr. (Jamie), Carlos and Elisa; granddaughter Isabella; sisters Emily, Rosie, Pilar and Esther. He was preceded by his first wife Clementina, his parents and brothers Jess, Fred, and John. Compassionate, opinionated, humorous, humble and dutiful father. Fighter, survivor, and supporter of the Mexican-American community. We will dearly miss him and are proud to have had him in our lives. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a vigil beginning at 7:00 PM, at DARLING FISCHER GARDEN CHAPEL, 471 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA. Mass Celebration will be at St. Victor's Church on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, Santa Clara, CA.
