Jose Luis Da Silva Pereira
01/01/1946 – 10/25/2006Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after battling terminal illness for the past 18 months. Born in the village of Sao Bras on the island of Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal. Immigrated to Taunton / New Bedford area of Massachusetts with his wife in 1968. Moved to San Jose in 1978.Throughout his life, he taught his children and those around him the importance of unconditional love to family, loyalty to friends, charity, hard work and sacrifice as important parts of the American Dream. Always willing to help others in need. Retired in 2005 after 36 years of working for NABISCO; enjoyed taking trips with his wife, walking his dog, spending time with his new grandson, playing cards with other seniors at the Portuguese Community Center, and growing tomatoes, zucchini, and other crops at his community garden plot in San Jose.Jose is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Aida, and by his children, Lisa, Paulo (San Jose), and Dave (San Diego); as well as one grandchild and many other relatives. Jose was an active member of the Club 60 seniors group at POSSO: the Portuguese Community Center in San Jose. He was an active parishioner of Five Wounds Portuguese National Church in San Jose and a friend of the Portuguese Heritage Society of CA, volunteering for festivals and events at History Park San Jose. Jose was an active member of the Santo Cristo Society of South San Francisco, the I.F.E.S. Portuguese Society of Mountain View, the I.E.S. Portuguese Hall and Society of San Jose, and the Family of the Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost based in Santa Clara.Visitation will take place Monday, October 30th at 6:15 PM at Five Wounds Portuguese National Church with a Rosary at 7:00 PM and followed by mass. Internment to be held at Calvary Cemetery in San Jose the following day. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Portuguese Organization for Social Services & Opportunities (POSSO) in memory of Jose Pereira, at 1115 E Santa Clara St., Ste A, San Jose, CA 95116. Services under the direction of Mission Chapel of Rancadore & Alameda Funeral Home.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
