Joseph Badame Obituary

Joseph Martin Badame, MD
Apr 24, 1928-Feb 18, 2013
Resident of Monte Sereno
Joseph passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born in San Jose, Joseph grew up in the Santa Clara Valley where he helped his parents, the late Antoinette and Tony Badame, manage an orchard renowned for its peaches, cherries, and apricots. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from Creighton University Medical School in 1952. Subsequently he married the love of his life, Frances McNulty, who preceded him in death. After serving as a medical officer during the Korean War, he obtained an advanced degree in medicine and established a practice as a general surgeon in the Bay Area. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, and Member of the Santa Clara County Medical Association. Joseph touched and saved the lives of many as a surgeon in a practice that spanned nearly 40 years.
He loved to work with his hands and was also a master mechanic and machinist. Among the many things he designed and built were a tractor, backyard gazebo, go-carts for his children, and a sausage machine that was featured in the San Jose Mercury News.
Joseph was a man of many talents but he was also deeply devoted to his family. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children: Anne, Christine, Mary (Pat), Anthony (Melissa), Joe (Martha); grandchildren: Jennifer (Sean), Laura (Sohail), Lisa, Erin and Sophia, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Rosary will be held at 7:30 pm on Friday, February 22. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, February 23. Both services will be at St. Mary's Church, 219 Bean Ave, Los Gatos. Following the Mass, interment will be at Madronia Cemetery, 14766 Oak Street, Saratoga.

"In the Buddhist view, the bonds that link people are not a matter of this lifetime alone. And because those who have died in a sense live on within us, our happiness is naturally shared with those who have passed away. So, the most important thing is for those of us who are alive at this moment to live with hope and strive to become happy"...Daisaku Ikeda

Dr. Joe, I promise to visit Mezzojuso with your Guiseppe as we discussed. I will miss our research sessions on San Jose history, your Sicilian ancestors, and our lively debates on everything from brining turkeys to proper gardening techniques. I loved making you Ecuadorean empanadas. You ate them with such zeal. Thank you for your companionship and affection. Your loving daughter-in-law.
