Joseph Campbell Obituary

Joseph Campbell
April 27, 1978 - March 1, 2015
Resident of Sunnyvale
Joe, a free spirit with a big heart and a kind soul, has passed away. A lover of all things art, Joe was a painter, a poet, a musician, an avid reader, and a beautifully untrained philosopher. His passion to create has spread his works of art throughout his circle of friends, family, community and beyond. Joe graduated from Eisenhower Elementary School, Hyde Middle School, and Cupertino High School. Shortly before his 20th birthday, Joe was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He spent the rest of his life fighting a hard battle to manage his illness, stay connected with his friends and loved ones, and stay true to himself. Joe will be forever in the hearts and minds of his parents, Beth and Jim Campbell, and all his dear friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, please donate to NAMI Santa Clara County. All are welcome to attend a service in Joe's memory at Triumphant Life Church at 402 Carroll Street in Sunnyvale at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 14th. A website has been set up in Joe's memory: joecampbell.homestead.com

This is a picture I took of Joe at the Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park in July of 2012. A great day with my wife Karen, Joe, Jim and Beth. Joe is being Joe by hamming it up with the Buddha.

Jim & Beth,
We were so very sad to hear of Joe's death. It doesn't seem right that such a smart and talented young man had to have such struggles in his life. Our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. You are both incredibly strong people but you are being put through the most difficult of ordeals. We hope you find comfort in your fond memories of Joe. Keith & Marcia Flagler

God Knows Best
Our Father knows what is best for us, so why should we complain? We always want sunshine, but he knows there must be rain. We love the sound of laughter and the merriment of cheer, but our hearts would lose their tenderness if we never shed a tear. Our Father tests us not to punish, but to help us meet tomorrow, for growing trees are strengthened when they withstand the storm, and the sharp cut of the chisel gives the marble grace and form. God never hurts us needlessly, and he never wastes our pain, for every loss he sends to us is followed by rich gain. And when we count the blessings that God has so freely sent, we will find no cause for murmuring, and no time to lament. For our Father loves his children and to him there is much to gain, so he never sends us pleasure when the soul's deep need is pain. So, whenever we are troubled and everything goes wrong, it is God working in us to make our spirits strong.

Joe will be so greatly missed by everyone who shared the privelege of knowing him. My thoughts and prayers are with you Beth and Jim. He couldn't have asked for better parents. Susan Berg
