Joseph Chase Obituary

CHASE, Joseph R.-- 52, passed away suddenly on January 5th at home in Gilroy, surrounded by his wife, Christine, and children, Peter and Sarah Chase. Joe was born July 9, 1950 in Medford, OR, the son of Norman and Florence Chase. He graduated from Mt. Angel Seminary in 1968. An accomplished craftsman and artisan, who designed all of the furniture in his home, Joe was an enthusiastic gardener and repairman, activist in many communities on behalf of those less fortunate, and an avid motorcyclist.
He was well known in Gilroy for his efforts to enact policies to promote responsible city growth, and in his neighborhood for helping others with home projects. He could build anything. Joe was also a family man, in every sense, and demonstrated his love for his home and family in extraordinary ways. He was beloved by all who knew him, and always ready to lend assistance.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Christine, and two children, Peter and Sarah. His departure leaves an enormous void for his close knit family of six brothers and sisters; Norman Chase Jr., of Aloha, Charlene Grove of White City, Elizabeth Becker of Salem, (twin) Judy Wesemann of Woodburn, Tom Chase of North Bend (all in Oregon) and Michael Chase of Texas.
Memorial service to be held Friday, January 10, 2003 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Avenue, Gilroy. Friends will also gather for a celebration of his life on Sunday, January 19th, with location to be announced.
Memorial gifts may be made toward a college fund for Peter and Sarah Chase, c/o South Valley Bank, Gilroy, or to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1729, Americus, GA 31709-9948. Arrangements by HABING FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Gilroy.
