Joseph Leonard Obituary

LEONARD, Joseph Clement -- Fremont, Joseph Clement Leonard, a 34 year resident of Fremont, died peacefully at Kaiser Hospital, supported by the love of his caring wife and son. He was happily married to Gerrie (Seramur) for close to 34 years. A loving husband and dedicated father, the couple traveled the world, were active members of the St. Joseph's church community, enjoyed time with their friends, laughed together and raised their son, Joseph Lanaghan Leonard, 32, who now lives with his family in Santa Cruz. Mr. Leonard was born in Kansas City, MO on December 9, 1926. His parents were Elsie and David Leonard. He attended Rockhurst high school and college and had many fond memories of playing on the high school and college football teams. He entered Conception Seminary and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1955. He served the Kansas City community with zeal and vigor for almost 15 years, before meeting his wife Gerrie in 1968. He later worked for the county of Santa Clara as a vocational counselor for 30 years. He was a former member of SIRS, a Dawnbreaker Lion and a member of the St. Joseph's Mens Club. A compassionate and intelligent man, he touched the lives of all who had the fortune to know him. He is survived by his wife Gerrie, son Joseph, daughter-in-law Jennifer and his grandson Niraj. He will be remembered fondly by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Mass celebrating his life, on Monday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 43148 Mission Blvd., in Fremont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sister John Marie's Pantry, Sisters of the Holy Family, 510-624-4500.
