Kevin McCarthy Obituary

Kevin B. McCarthy
April 21, 1934 - Feb. 15, 2014
Resident of San Jose
Kevin was born in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, England. He came to America on the Queen Mary from England in November of 1963, with his good friend Jim Parkinson.
He met his wife Rosie in Southern California in 1964 and married July 22, 1978. They enjoyed a half century of good times.
Kevin was an A licensed National soccer coach. He played soccer from the time he was 4 years old and still played up until age 71 when the onset of Parkinson's disease in 2006 made it difficult to continue. He coached various youth soccer teams at all levels, from recreational to Olympic development teams for the State of California. He founded POSH (Pass On Soccer to the Handicapable) in 1986. All levels of disability were welcome to play. He was awarded the Valley of the Heart Award from Parents helping Parents in Santa Clara County. It was his most cherished award that he held among the many he received during his time as coach and player. He was an avid traveler, sportsman, and a season ticket holder for the San Jose Earthquakes since they were founded in 1974.
All are welcome to a visitation being held Sunday, 2/23 from 5-9pm with a vigil service at 7pm at Oak Hill. A Mass will be Monday, 2/24 at Saint Christopher's Parish at 11am with interment to follow at Oak Hill.

Kevin....we were so lucky to live on the mountain when we did! Things have changed so much now! I still have the photo of you volunteer firefighters in full gear, standing in front of the fire truck, doing a can-can kick, hanging on my wall at home. There are so many wonderful memories. Please rest in peace now. With Love, Barb Cook

Rose,
Kevin was a great guy. My family always admired and respected his soccer knowledge, and his exceptional way with young soccer players.

Rest in Peace "Uncle Kevi"

It is with the heaviest of heart that you leave us "Uncle Kevi." You were one of the kindest, most gentle and most accepting people I have ever known. You accepted everyone for who they were, me included. I hope you know how much you were loved by so many. I also hope you and Bob met at the Pearly Gates and started heavens newest soccer team. I will miss you forever but at least I know you are no longer in pain. You can run free and play soccer again. This world has been a better place since you were in it. May there be soccer fields in heaven. Love you always my "Uncle Kevi."
