Kurt Koenig Obituary

Kurt Koenig
Longtime Resident of Los Altos
Kurt passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015. He was born in Austria on Oct. 3, 1920. As a young man he worked in his father's very successful tailoring business where he learned his trade. After Germany annexed Austria, and after braving many hardships including his father's death, Kurt arrived in New York in 1938, and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He then helped to bring his mother and his sister to the U.S. He met and married his beloved wife of 67 years Rosemary. They moved to San Mateo, CA, where he was hired in San Francisco to work in a tailoring business, the trade he knew so well. With hard work and determination he was able to buy and start his own tailoring business in San Francisco and became very successful. They then moved their home to Los Altos, CA, and Kurt continued working until years past retirement age, when he was 82. He met and worked with many well-known individuals who liked and respected him and loved the very unique and precision way he delivered his work. He was well travelled with an amazing memory that recalled all the memorable events of his life, which made him the special, interesting and unforgettable person with a most amazing survival history. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Rosemary and Kurt are survived by their only son Ken, daughter-in-law Jessica, grandchildren Kimberly and David, and companion of many years Emil, as well as friends who shared his wisdom and love for life.
With gratitude to his many friends who could not visit him in person but were concerned for his health during his last months; to his friends who often visited and showed their love and respect with their presence; to his longtime primary physician Dr. Vandevort and Dr. Kopardekar, his social worker Heidi Stein, to Anya and all the Palo Alto Palliative care staff for their advice and support. He will be greatly remembered and missed by everyone who knew him as the wise, thoughtful, caring and special person he was. He will live in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace. Private services have been held. Please consider a contribution in his memory to your choice of charity. Thank you.

If ever one was in need of a good man and a loyal friend... Kurt fit the bill. Although he could be abrupt at times, he had a great sense of humor (I can still hear him snort when he laughed) and he always said what he believed.. even if others didn't appreciate his candor. BUT, he was a loving friend and a caring person who would go out of his way for those he loved. I was his neighbor in Los Altos for many years. rest in peace dear Kurt Nancy
