Laura Burns Obituary

Peoria, Arizona
Passed away peacefully with family at her side on June 19, 2021 in Peoria, Arizona. Laura was born in Dayton, Ohio to James and Marjorie Hoerbelt on February 23, 1957. She was the youngest of two daughters, joining older sister Christine. In 1959, the Hoerbelts moved to California, eventually settling in the Happy Valley neighborhood of San Jose. Laura graduated from Prospect High School in 1975 and earned an Associates Degree from Foothill College. Laura was a dedicated employee at ASE, California Microdevices, Chartered Semiconductor, and Toppan Photomasks. It was at Chartered where she met the love of her life, Mike Burns. Mike and Laura were married in Monterey in 2005. They spent many happy years traveling to Asia, Europe, NYC, Hawaii, and other exotic locales. Laura was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, and threw the most beautiful get-togethers for her girlfriends and her family. She will be remembered for her quiet grace, humor, thoughtfulness, meticulous manners, and elegant style. Laura's other loves were babies, Christmas, fashion, shopping, buttercream, champagne, and her precious dog Cosmo. Laura was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Marge. She is survived by her loving husband Mike Burns, devoted sister Chris Hoerbelt, four stepchildren, Jennifer (Amy), Donald (Claudia), Sean (Dena), and Christopher, grandchildren, Austin and Willow. Laura will be missed by her family and her many life-long friends. A private Celebration of Life will be held in July in Santa Clara, California. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Laura's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
