I´m not very good at remembering all the details about where Lenore (or some called her Ellie) went to school, her profession, or even how many siblings she had, but what I clearly remember is how remarkably kind, caring, and most importantly, how faithful she was to God, so much so that she even walked to St Christopher´s into her 90´s! I haven´t known her as many years as some, but bringing her Holy Communion at home for a few years was very telling about who she was.....nearly every time I visited she wanted to make sure I was greeted, and when I left she ALWAYS wanted Maka or Mary, (her caregivers) to help her walk me to the door, even during the weekend before she passed away. Not only did she want to walk me to the door, but she wanted to make sure I was always comfortable. I also learned a bit about her family....she happily shared the many adventures she and her husband had traveling, mentioned her mother and her brother Bob countless times, and was sure to let us know to close the curtain so the sun wouldn´t fade the rug her mom bought them , we would just chuckle, how can you not do what a 109 year old asks of you?! Of course as the years passed, she couldn´t hear as well, so conversations were very limited, and at times we would write down what we tried to say so we could communicate. Even so, it did not matter if the conversations were lengthy or not at all, just sitting in her company was enjoyable, watching whatever sports game was on since she was a sports fan, or the Christian music programs she also liked- at times (even recently) I would raise my arms with the music and she would follow along, it was endearing. Especially memorable was when she would hold and pat my hand , give a sweet grin, her eyes were even smiling, and she was content as can be. Not once did I hear her complain, but she was filled with such gratitude even until the very end when she was concerned about walking me to the door when I left, you see, it was never about her. Maka shared that every night before going to sleep Lenore would say her prayers and make the sign of the cross, even until the very end, we knew exactly who she lived for and so, this is not really the end, but the beginning of her everlasting life with the Lord. We love you Lenore, will miss you tremendously, until we meet again ! Love, Kristi
