Resident of Cupertino, CA
Louis "Lou" Lucas of Cupertino, CA passed away peacefully on November 19, 2021. Lou was 90 years old. Born in San Jose, California in 1931 to Portuguese-Hawaiians Mary and Louis C. Lucas. Lou was a man of faith, prayer and generosity. He was a devoted husband, father, educator, mentor, coach and friend. Lou had a lifelong love for the game of baseball as an athlete, coach and fan. Lou's generosity extended to all his dear friends through his love of cooking and entertaining. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always sharing amazing stories. Lou remained sharp with his daily viewing of "Jeopardy".
Lou attended St. Leo's Elementary School, Bellarmine College Prep and Santa Clara University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1953 thanks to his baseball scholarship as a catcher for the Broncos. Following graduation, he served as a First Lieutenant Artillery Officer during the Korean conflict. After his military service, he attended San Jose State University and earned a Master's degree in Education. His teaching and coaching career began at Bellarmine College Prep and then on to Santa Clara High School. Lou taught U.S. government and coached baseball for over 30 years. He served as an Assistant Baseball Coach at Santa Clara University for 20 years. In retirement, Lou volunteered in the Athletic Department at Santa Clara University as a travel coordinator supporting all sports teams for almost 20 years. He also volunteered as Assistant Baseball Coach at St. Francis High School in Mountain View for nine years. He served on the Alumni Board of Directors for 3 years. Lou was inducted into both the Bellarmine College Prep and Santa Clara University Hall of Fames.
Lou married the love of his life, Margaret Dolores McCollough in 1957. They were married for 44 years and had a wonderful life together raising four children. Lou is survived by his daughters Diane Lucas, Kathy Buckley, and son Robert; his daughter-in-law Linda Lucas; his grandchildren Knoa, Maggie and Casey Buckley, Clay and Josh Lucas; plus many nieces, nephews and many friends. His wife Margaret preceded him in death in 2001. Lou's son, David Lucas, preceded him in death in April 2021. His dear sister Gerri preceded him
in death in August 2018.

Mr. Lucas was one of my favorite teachers. He was my teacher at Santa Clara High. I graduated in 1990 and I STILL tell stories about him. He was so caring and funny. He made learning fun. My condolences to the family.
