Lourdes Alverson Obituary
Resident of Santa Clara
Lourdes Villafranca Alverson, wife, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on March 18, 2018. Born on March 13, 1930 to Carmelo Villafranca and Rose Mulligan Villafranca of Manila, Philippines (formerly a United States Territory).
Mary Lou, as she was known to her friends and co-employees, went to local schools and graduated with a diploma in Business Administration. Growing up in World War II in the Philippines, she participated in the underground movement. After arriving in the United States, she assisted her husband in oil and gas marketing throughout southwest U.S. and Mexico and a successful family Carpet/Interior Design business in Oklahoma.
She retired from Gemco stores rising from customer service to Department Manager and Merchandise Buyer.
On retirement, she spent many happy years volunteering for the San Jose Convention Bureau, Santa Clara County Convention Bureau, Mirassou Winery Cultural events and part-time employment at the Student Bookstore, Foothill Community College. Her interests included travel, gardening and interior decoration. She was an avid supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Salvation Army and the St Jude Children's Hospital.
Mary Lou is survived by several sisters and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her loving husband, H. C. Alverson, parents, siblings and other close relatives. She will always be remembered for her love of life, humor, family values and lots of fun and laughs. She spent her life giving wonderful memories and joy to all who knew her.
Family, friends and co-employees are invited to a Celebration of Life at St. Joseph of Cupertino Catholic Church in Cupertino, CA, 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
