Margaret Marie Mentink

1929 - 2023

Margaret Mentink, a native Nebraskan, passed away December 28, 2023, at the age of ninety-four. Born November 26,1929, in West Point, Nebraska, Margaret is survived by her children, Teresa, Michael, (and wife Dana), and Cheryl, along with five granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson. Margaret is preceded in death by James C. Mentink, her loving husband of sixty-nine years, sons James Mentink Jr., David William Mentink, sisters Rosemary Lehr, Sister Pauline Risse, Grace Jean Stewart and her brother Leo Risse.Margaret was an active member of Saint Martin's Church in Sunnyvale where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. She recently transferred to the Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale. She was also active in Young Ladies Institute Little Flower #134 and the Catholic Daughters of America.Along with raising five children, Margaret worked for Sunnyvale Hardware and Security Pacific Bank and retired in 1991. After retirement, Margaret and Jim fulfilled a life-long dream of driving the Alaskan Highway. Among their other travels, they enjoyed a trip to the Holy Lands and a cruise through the Panama Canal.The visitation will be held at Spangler Mortuary, 174 N. Sunnyvale Ave., Sunnyvale, CA January 12 from 5-7pm and the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 725 Cascade Dr, Sunnyvale, CA at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 13. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos, CA.In lieu of flowers, Margaret requests donations to St. Vincent de Paul or Jesuit West.
