Margaret Mariece Schwieterman passed away in her sleep on January 23, 2018 in San Jose, California.
Mariece was born to John and Mary Sweeney on November 20, 1923 in Ramona, South Dakota. Once she graduated from high school in her hometown, the family moved to Los Angeles, where Mariece worked as a riveter and built airplanes for the Lockheed Corporation during World War II. After the war, she took what was supposed to be a two-way cruise to Alaska, but she was so taken with the region that she settled in Ketchikan. There she supported herself as a bookkeeper, a profession she would follow for the rest of her working life. While in Ketchikan, she also met and married her husband, Rudy Schwieterman. The couple later moved to Bellingham, Washington, and then to various places in California, eventually settling permanently in 1963 in Campbell, where they raised four children.
Both before and after her retirement, Mariece worked for decades as a volunteer in numerous capacities at Saint Lucy Catholic Church in Campbell. She was also a long-term member of the Young Ladies' Institute there. After she retired, Mariece enjoyed traveling widely in Europe, visiting numerous countries over many years.
Mariece was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1974. She is survived by her children, Michael, Patrick, Carole and Richard, and by her grandsons, Anthony, Richard and Nick.
Visitation is Thursday, 2/1 from 5 - 8 PM, Rosary at 7 PM, at Campbell Memorial Chapel. Mass is Friday, 2/2 at 1:30 at St. Lucy Church in Campbell. Burial is at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
