Matthew Brettner Obituary

Matthew Lawrence Brettner, a disabled and out-of-work mechanic, had been living in room No. 111 at the St. Francis Motel in Santa Clara since March.

Last week, someone stabbed the 43-year-old Santa Clara man multiple times and left him to die in his motel room.

Santa Clara police today identified Brettner as the victim in the April 23 homicide and released his photo, hoping to generate information in the case.

My prayers go out all of those who were effected by this loss. Miss Brettner, Kim and Treva. Reflecting back
Thank you for extending and welcoming me into
Your home and seeing what good people you all were all about. I admired Matt, (lil fella) back then coming to age as
A young man stage. I do recall his quick and witty humor that
Keep you in check and yet, very smart and mechanically inclined. My prayers and thoughts to family and friends
Thinking of you Matt, with a smile on my face and our macho man cut downs we would tease each with with laughter

Matt,
A month before you died I didn't pick you up and bring you home with me. The day before you died we had gotten into a big argument. That's the last time I talked to you. You called me an hour before it happened and I didn't pick up the phone because we were sleeping. The horror when the detectives called me the next morning. There were so many questions they had, I was the last person you had talked to.
I Wasn't there for you and I didn't protect you and for that I'm sorry. I have been living knee deep in regret ever since. I have to try and forgive myself And find the courage to move on. I have blamed myself for what happened to you.
I miss talking to you every day with your joke of the day. You always seemed to call when I was making dinner for the kids. Timing is everything ...we had a very special relationship. I miss our bike rides in the mountains you would always kick my butt!!! What a workout. You taught me everything I know about cars and mechanics and for that I am grateful. I carry you with me,
You will be forever missed, always remembered, forever in my heart. I am truly sorry.

I love you Matt,
your sister,
Treva

I have just learned of Matt's death- I am so sad.... Treva was my BFF as we lived 2 doors down from the Brettners in Los Altos.... Matt always lead neigborhood games, like Manhunt (a tag and hide n seek game at dusk) and he would skateboard, and the girls would roller skate- we listened to KOME and discovered Ozzy and Led Zep.... laughed and learned a lot. Those were great amazing childhood memories in the making... He was such a fun, dynamic, and warm guy... He always washed his hands a lot and was clean too!!! Such a cutie! Miss You!!!! : (

Matt was a good friend of mine from Ione. I loved him dearly, I had no idea that he had passed until tonight. I will always remember our fun nights of bike riding and dancing.

Dear Marilyn, Kim and Treva,
We recently learned about Matt's passing and we offer our deepest sympathy, love and prayers. Our memories of Matthew were many; he was full of life, a beautiful child with blond curly hair and always running through the streets of Los Altos following us girls (Kim, remember? lol :-) Those were such wonderful memories we will never forget. Lots of love to you all, from Los Altos: Jeanne, Lesley, Nancy & Patti Hillyer

We are so sorry to have this happen to Matt. We both remember this boy and his sisters from the time they were born and what a nice boy Matt is. I remember when our Alan got his first motorcycle at age 13 and how Matt helped him keep it running, we remember days with our kids and Matt at his home in Los Altos and our home in Saratoga. We know Matt is now in a place filled with love and peace and we have his Mom and sisters in our thoughts and prayers. We knew Matt he is dear to us and we love him

My friend married Matt's sister years ago. It was during that period that I met and spent some time with him. Matt was a good person with a great heart. Warm wishes to he and his family. May he rest in peace.

My brothers and I remember playing with Matt when his family lived up the street from us in Los Altos a long time ago. He was an all-around good guy, and a true friend.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Matt's family, he will not be forgotten.
