Passed away suddenly on May 5, 2010 at his home in Los Gatos, CA. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Newman, mother Rose Koff, brother Jeffrey Newman, sister Deborah Newman Krco, mother-in-law Helen Parker Keatley, daughters Jill Carlson and Korin Baber, son-in-law Brad Baber, grandchildren Abby and Ben, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael was born May 11, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA to Robert and Rose Newman. He graduated North Hollywood High School and attended UC Berkeley. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Michael had a long career in the computer and computer security fields. He married Kathy in 1986 and became a devoted father to her daughters, and he doted on his two young grandchildren, who adored him. He is remembered for his remarkable ability to solve any problem that was presented to him, whether it was the particular challenge of gophers in the garden, faulty computer network connections, or thorny decisions to be made. He was able to fix everything and discuss any topic authoritatively, thanks to his eager mind and his faith in the power of the words "just look it up!" But above all, Michael was a caring and loyal man and a good friend whose kindness and ever-ready laughter won him a warm place in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Services in celebration of Michael's life will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, May 9, at the Chapel of Roses, Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA. Interment will follow in the Home of Peace Cemetery.
